Wow amazing match. So great to have these 2 back in the WTA. A shame Justine wasnt able to close out her chances. I think that was it being her first event back showing but she will rectify that next time I think.

Wow some genuine drama - great match.

Gee I haven't seen this good tennis in a while.

Oh that's right these two have been away!

I totally missed the match. Wow, look at the double faults and break points.

I'm happy for Kim and I can't wait for AO.

I think Justine will be stopped a lot from winning titiles as long as she has to play the bigger and stronger hitters.
She needs to accept she will never be back where she was once. Reminds me of how Davenport had to accept the "better movers" in the game in her days. KIm has the "total" package. Big, strong, talented, great mover, she can practically step on someone like Justine. She had to recover some confidence because Justine has a winnning record over her. But like how Kolyahas been gaining confidence against Federer, KIm will show the same.

Did you actually watch the match? Power was absolutely not the deciding factor, both were pretty evenly matched on being brutal with a tennis ball. Tonight it was nerves, and they both alternated taking turns at who was the nervous one.

When they were both swinging freely it was glorious tennis and there was little, if anything, to separate them.

They won the same amount of points. It came down to a tiebreak where it ended up being 8-6. You cannot be serious.

I don't normally watch women's tennis so I was very surprised at the power they have. How does the female ball speed compare to men's? Looke pretty similar. Is it just that men have better movement, are taller and have bigger serves?

Kim and Justine were smackcing the **** out the ball yesterday. Great to see.

And to answer your question - As someone who has hit with both WTA and ATP players (hit with Venus just a few months ago to give you an idea) the top power girls like Kim, WS etc all hit a very hard ball - right up there with most of the guys.

But the big difference is spin. Very few girls really get that heavy ball going. Usually they have a much flatter ball. I think we might see some of that changing here soon with some of the female juniors who might be looking at Nadal and that style of play as an influence. Will be interesting to see.

Of course the other big differences are the serve (really no contest there) and movement/speed.

Yeah, that must be why Clijsters has 2 slams, and not 7 like Henin. In the match, Clijsters basically played as well as she conceivably can, Henin played average by her standards, and the match still went to a third set that was decided by a tiebreaker. Considering the fact that Clijsters has been back and has a lot more match practice since her return, I'd say that says a lot more positive things for Henin that the win does for Clijsters.

And as for your appraisal - I'd take Henin's groundstrokes over Clijsters', Henin's serve over Clijsters', her general shotmaking ability over Clijsters', her net game over Clijsters', her tennis intelligence over Clijsters' and the movement is probably a push. The only part of Clijsters' game that I would take is her return of serve.
