How to Hit a buggy whip shot?

The easiest way to hit the snake.

You simly need to hit the slider type serve that some punk I played when I was a beginner hit. His slice serve would never ever go past the service line. It would just do this huge curve.

This is the amount and type of spin you would need to hit with your forehand to produce that curve. I think you are better off just doing a modified version of the slice serve with your forehand.

Andres Guazzelli:

25000 rpm is not required to produce that type of shot. The "correct spin" will make the ball curve like Kaido's snake.
Also the ball does not need to travel at Mach 1 400mph the speed of sound.

even at that, the spin they get is not what you will get...

I have seen Nadal, Roddick, Federer hit those snake shots on the run where it spins sideways into the court. and did I hear someone say davenport? are you kidding me, it might LOOK like it but her shots are as flat as anyones, no way it is close to a snake shot.

Non of those players produced the snake curve. That includes Federer and Rios.

You've got to hit that slice serve I described using a modified version of a forehand. It bends like the letter L. The ball goes forward and then it does a half U turn.

Fuji's Swallow return is possible (in concept; zero bounce is impossible) with a heavily topspun shot coming at you. It works a lot better when you volley the forehand slice though, which leads to control problems...

Hit a forehand topspin in to a mound and it won't bounce at all. Happened to me before.

The court had a little volcano like shape to it. The crack was huge.

have you seen the prince of tennis live action movie? you get to see it done in real life... pretty sweet. you might learn a few things. I like to call it the snake shot though, I'm working on it on my table tennis :)

The problem with the Live-Action Movie is that the ball isn't real. They put it in digitally to make it all fancy-like. If you didn't watch it yet, you should. Echizen actually flies into the air to smash the ball.

You know how Kaido hits a reverse snake? Well with an amazing amount of side-spin on a ground-stroke I have pulled off something similar to that, except most of the change of direction came after the bounce.

Are we talking here about the nadal signature shot? When the frame loops over the shoulder of the racket arm? Big topspin fh nailer that's often DTL?

If so, can we hear a bit more technique discussed? I ask because my version of this is frequently sailing long right now and I'm not 100 per cent sure why.

if you post a vid it will be easier to check what is wrong.

the buggy whip is not that different from a normal WW FH, except that the windshield is placed a lot higher :)

you still use the kinetic chain to toss the entire arm/racket unit up there, with contact point in front of your hitting shoulder, and the racket face should have the same 'loft' (therefore the similarity to the WW FH) going thru the impact.

I said 'hitting shoulder', because this shot is so versatile, you can use in normal rally with an open/neutral stance, or you can use in a running wide situation, where your body is closed, and your arm has nowhere to go in the follow-thru except to fly over your head.

1 caveat is that you can add more wrist action in the buggy FH, which you can't really do in the normal WW FH, (otherwise the racket will wack your left arm and leave bruises :)

While you're at it, pick up Shaolin Soccer (with Stephen Chow or something). They make Brazil soccer look like 3 years olds' game.

That first video looks like one it's on one of the courts where I used to practice.

I remember seeing that movie! Ancient Chinese kung fu allows flipping your body upside down and kicking it so that it curves in circles on the way to the goal!

Well first you gotta buff up your hitting arm. Nadal size if you wanna hit it every forehand like he does. After that the mechanics is just like a pro-style forehand, except you 'arm it' using no legs at all, meaning you're off balance while on the run or jammed up.

Happy Belated Birthday Southpaw.

Don't ask. I just saw your name on the Birthday list.
