how to time slow and loopy shots.

How do you train for slower loopy shots? I struggle to play guys who tries to wack the ball hard but ends up becoming loopy (and slow) with topspin. I just struggle with these types of shots.

I know its just preparation, but i play with a few guys who does these kinds of shots and I just could not match it. i seemed to prepare too early. I somehow play better who hits it more flatter.

you advice please.....

You need to work on your footwork and react to the ball the same way that you would for a better looking shot. Don't watch the shot, move those feet and get up there quickly. Also learn to use the hit-bounce-hit cadence as Bungalo Bill has said many times before here.

You have to learn to hit on the rise. That is a good defensive reaction to hard hitters is loopy spin shots back. Read up on hitting on the rise.QUOTE]

That is an ok idea if you want to be an agressive player but depending on your style of play, you have a few different choices. 1. Hit it back, high and loopy. (if you do this, you need to hav good footwork and get in position quickly) 2. Take it on the rise (risky if you can't time the stroke perfectly) 3. Take it before it bounces (only if the ball is short or something you can set up to put away the next shot). Of course, if you can take it on the rise or attack the loopy balls it is probably the best idea but I can sense that you are merely making errors on the high loopy balls. If you want to make less errors on the loopy balls, get well behind it and put it back high and loopy cause it is definitely a percentage shot compared to taking it on the rise. Then once you are confident of getting that shot back, you can work on anticipating the loopy balls and attacking

Try practicing against the wall. Although the wall bounce won't come back with much spin, at least you can get a feel for hitting the ball on the rise. Start off slow.

Do you mean that your opponents are going for too much and not hitting cleanly? Doesn't sound like a good strategy to me.

Or do you mean just a loopier, heavy topspin style of play? These players can be very tricky, especially on the backhand side.
