Ok I realise that this may be a bit of a spoiler, but oh well.

Imagine if Roger had won the US Open, so it was 2 slams a piece to him and Rafa, and then considering Roger's season for the second half of the year, the final could have been a battle for No. 1!!!!!!

HOW EPIC WOULD THAT HAVE BEEN? After a year of not so exciting matches (except a few at Wimby, and the Fed-Djok US Open, and a few great 3 setters along the way), it would have been a fantastic way to end the season!

Alas it was not to be. Damn you Roger, I'm so pissed off at him!

Anyways, has this situation ever happened? Battle for No.1 at the Year end Championship final (or World tour finals final...)

In a sense it is, getting those points will be great buffers for next year. Fed wants to get to No 1 and Rafa wants to stay at No 1 and while Fed actually have an easier time, it's gonna be rough for Rafa.

Well, Federer has so far gained 200 points in this tournament (1,000 so far in 2010, and 800 in 2009). Nadal got 0 points last year because he lost all 3 of his round robin matches, so has already gained 1,000 points in this tournament.

Wouldn't have made a difference had he won the USO. Nadal would still be too far ahead of him. Right now there are nearly 4000 points still separating them.
