Federer sets sights on Grand Slam

Federer has won all seven Grand Slam finals he has played
World number one Roger Federer is eyeing victory in the French Open after his second Australian Open success.
The Swiss ace, who took the 2005 Wimbledon and US Open titles, now only needs to win in Paris to hold all four Grand Slam titles simultaneously.

"Obviously, I know the importance of winning the French and what it would do to my career," said Federer after his four-set win over Marcos Baghdatis.

"Now I've won them twice each at least it puts the pressure on the French."

Federer, who has never won the French Open, added: "But if I keep on winning Wimbledon and not the French, I'm very happy about that, too.

"Winning three or four or two Grand Slam tournaments in a row is a fantastic effort, so I'm going for four. That would be fantastic.

"The French obviously is the one that's not been possible for me so far, but I believe I've also only given myself one chance to win and that was last year.

"I didn't play great but made it to the semis. We're still a few months away - I hope I stay healthy so I get a chance to do it."

An emotional Federer received his trophy from Rod Laver, the last man to hold all four Grand Slams at the same time.

"I'm definitely on a great roll at the moment but don't forget it's been a tough road for me," said Federer.

"I amaze myself every time I do well. I've been so consistent, winning so many slams, it's quite incredible.

"I'll just try to keep it up, stay healthy and keep enjoying it, because that's what I'm doing, and I think that's what makes me play well."

I was pretty surprised when I read that. Do you guys think that it was a smart move of him to announce that to the media?

Maybe he was talking about the Wimbledon? He was talking about it in the previous sentence. But then again, he talked about RG the sentence right after.

Drat, Roger! What did you mean?!!!

He did'nt exactly anounce it. Was he supposed to say he's not going to go for it? "It would be great, but I think I'll sit this one out"

The alternative is to flounder almost every year at the FO, loosing early, say or act like he doesn't 'need' a major he doesn't already have and then hope nobody notices the empty space on the trophy cabinet.

He's always talked about keeping his wimby crown, and that he doesn't mind winning it every year even at the expense of never winning RG. He was referring to wimbledon.
