People are going on summer holidays internationally in Europe, so you got that wrong.

It's going to a very different USO, and a much weaker one, but it's still possible to put it on.

All the major sports where I live are up and running with a couple of problems along the way.

The real question is how well in practice will they manage the event.

In any event, the events will go ahead and so will the AO.

I don't think that I do. Other businesses are restructuring in way that USO can't. They cannot abstain from their participants travelling from al over the world, nor can they avoid contacts the way other businesses can. Many international companies are presently not doing any international travel for that reason and/or are moving to home office type of work not only for now, but also for the foreseeable future, and some that don't are already facing consequences.

People are going internationally in Europe at their own risk and the creeping number of infected in countries that were having the problem under control is indicative of the fact that when the large gatherings are allowed there are negative consequences.

I am not sure how it is in Australia, but I think that your cases are also on the rise. "A couple of problems along the way". If you want to go that route everything would be fine. Some people will get it and it might even be lethal, but the planet won't stop spinning, so if that is how one will decide whether precautions should be in place where it is most dangerous then we are leading that discussion from completely different perspectives. Staitstically very few people will actually die, compared to the global population, so if that is the argument, there is nothing to discuss.

With what is going on with baseball over here, I'm still very skeptical this will happen. Hopefully we learn from the other sports and are able to make the tournament safe. Baseball couldn't even get out of the first weekend with an outbreak on one team. If that happens during the tournament there will be a lot of defaults in the middle of the event.

NYC, with population of 8 million, has recently reported 0 daily deaths. One of the safest major cities in the world. Is 0 not good enough for the scaremongers?

NY State has also implemented 14 day quarantine for those coming in from out of state. As a result, very few are arriving from the problem southern states.

Any player that skips this Slam is a loser.

The US Open will be played with Djoker, Rafa, Medvedev, Dmitrov, and maybe even that flakey Thiem.

As long as players behave themselves at the hotel and don't go visiting bars and strip clubs, nobody is going to get infected.

Tennis has natural distancing. You can play an entire match without getting within 30 feet of another person. Our favorite Dr Fauci tells
us that it is impossible to get infected with even six feet distancing.

Yes, the US Open will be played. It will be played safely. And it will be a resounding success.

It is a great day for America.

It is a bad day for the "sky is falling" chicken- little fearmongers.

Play on!

If they are opening up the economy again, then why should the USO be excluded?

The main problem is the southern states that never really closed down in order to minimise transmission.

Have you heard anything about the new tournament in Kentucky? Serena is playing it.

What a year to be inaugurating a brand new event.

The note of triumphalism should be reserved for the Democrats running NYC and NY, so it's a job well-done to de Blasio and Cuomo!

The NBA is the only US sports league that appears to have its act together.

NBA teams are apparently playing all games in a "bubble" in Orlando.
Travelling reduces the risk... But there are still problems.
And why are there strip clubs open in Atlanta.

It's the usual federal philosophy, shared by some states, of pretending that we can do 'business as usual'.

I wonder what would be the reaction of people here if the USO final is to be played between Novak and Rafa, and 5 hours before it starts, Rafa defaults because a positive Covid test.

For all the flack he's been getting over his Adria tour, Novak has now a big advantage over the field and might well have the last laugh when all is said and done.
