Join USRSA?

I am interested in possibly joining USRSA. I enjoy stringing...I have an upright crank machine (Alpha Axis). With that said, I don't string a ton. I probably string 20 rackets or so a year. Can anyone give your thoughts on the benefits of joining (in terms of information, products, etc.) to see if it is worth the $100 or so? Thanks.

The information and references they give you can be obtained in other places for a lot cheaper/free. But in terms of discounts etc, its not a bad deal.

The free samples or discounts you get will pay for itself within the year. It's worth a year to give it a try.

Well worth it in my book. You get their digest sent twice/year, that has a lot of stringing info. plus all the major string patterns, also access to their web site, which you can get the latest racquet pattern updates. A local stringer called me up when he got a new racquet that just came out, and was unable to get the pattern anywheres even the manuf. site did not have it at that time, but the USRSA had it online. You get offers to get free string samples, and can even call and talk to a technician if you get stuck.RSI magazine gets delivered 10 issues /year. Well worth it!

Joining USRSA is a no-brainer. Not just for the string samples, which do pay for the membership, but for the depth of resources and reference material.

YES! join the ursrsa... u will recieve string samples worth at least $150 a year along with a lot of useful information that will help you both on and off the court... well worth it IMO

^^^ I keep reading that many people who join the USRSA don't receive their string samples because it is "first come, first serve". Is this correct, or does everyone receive them???

it is usually first come, first serve.. depends on the manufacturer.. sometimes every1 recieves a set.. if not, its to the first 500 or so members who e-mail or full out the form.

^^^Let see 500 of 10,000 or more members, 5% of the members or 1 out of 20. I don't like those odds if one is joining just for the free string.

I usually e-mail out the form from the magazine the day I receive it, and so far, I have received everyone that has come out.Usually it is the 1st 500 respondents, once in a great while it is for only 200 applicants, but it takes 1-2 months by the time you receive the strings.
Its a great organization to join irregardless of the string samples. They were not around when I first started to string, and neither was the internet, or this great site. Now stringers have a wealth of information that was not available years ago!

I have been a member for a long time and definitely think it is worth it. Also, have never had an issue in not receiving string samples--actually the opposite is true, sometimes I get too many and feel that I at least owe it to string it up and try it so at times it has been a pain. If you string for others in any sort of commerical enterprise, I think it is a must. If you just string for yourself, you can certainly live without a membership but you may miss out on some interesting information (sometimes interesting even if not relevant to your set up).

Definitely worth it IMO. The USRSA is an outstanding resource for stringers. Everything from patterns to online tools to help with just about everything that involves racquets and strings. I try to sign up every year.

Same here. I have been a member for over a year, and I have received every string sample.

Yes, but this kind of works out nicely... I forget about the samples, and when I go to the mailbox and find free string, it is a very pleasant surprise. :)

Take care.
