Just not feeling it

Im a healthy 14-year old who exercises daily. Ok so usually 3 times a week (atleast) i go to the YMCA and lift weights, do strength training, then fitness and cardio. Lately i havent had very much energy so i rested three days after my last workout then came to the YMCA and lightly lifted weights then did my cardio stuff. I usually do twenty minutes on resistance 80 on a elliptical machine so i did it this time but i could only do it for 5 mins. I waited 3 days then did it again and could only do 3 mins. I consume a multivitamin daily, eat energetic food (like bananas for example) but dont feel energetic at all. Any suggestions? Any 14 year old safe protein supplement things? Im open to anything i just want some energy again!

You feel good and healthy otherwise? Maybe a trip to the doctor to rule out mono or something is in order.

Highly unlikely you're protein deficient if you live in America and aren't below the poverty line. If you've gone from 20 minutes on a machine to struggling to do 3 minutes, it may be time for a medical exam.

^^^ Agree with above, get an exam. My brother, a good athlete, had mono when we were in high school and this sounds very much like his symptoms.

That's what i thought at first, i've been sick for a month with an off and on sinus infection but nothing severe. I got checked for mono and other things but i checked negative. It's weird, but its not like i "can't" run 20 minutes on an elliptical, i could do it if i pushed myself but i couldnt do like i used to with little effort. It's just i haven't had energy, doctor says it could be since im growing its taking my energy? any suggestments on a product that would boost my energy?

First things first, how much sleep are you getting? At 14, you'll need more than the 8 hour standard for adults, in my opinion.

I find that the "Naked" line of fruit smoothies give me a lot of energy in the morning. What's more, they don't have any added sugar, high fructose corn syrup, or any other junk.

If you want caffeine, you could try some Green Tea.

Banana an energetic food?...... My suggestion would be to up your carb intake (breads and cereals especially) as this is our bodies preferred energy source, plan your schedule/workout, set goals (long and short term) and workout with a friend to add some competitiveness.

Also make sure you mix up your routine so it doesn't get stale. Throw in an overload session every couple of weeks to really test your body's limits.

If that doesn't work, have a quad strength coffee. Works for me.

Are you being prescribed the multivitamin or have you just been taken in by the marketing? Unless you are actually deficient in a certain vitamin then then most people receive no benefit from these "healthy living" pills.

High energy foods

You should not be too concerned about your protein intake. Protein is used more in the body for muscle recovery and restoration after exercise. A marathon runner might use protein as an energy source but your workouts are going to be using the fuel you provide a few hours before the activity. Eat pasta, or cereal about an hour before the exercise. I recently did a diet analysis using the government website Mypyramid.gov On the left sign up for the free application (I think its called My pyramid tracker). Enter your daily intake and activity, and it will tell you what you need to do to your diet to give you more energy, and also will allow you to see vitamin and mineral levels as well.

Ok i looked it up but i dont have depression...lol i need something that will give me energy not something that will make my mood better.

Well, I was sort of kidding. Sort of. No emotional issues or extra stress in your life at the moment? If not, and the doctor says you're fine physically, I have no other answers.

Hey keep in mind you are 14 and your whole body is changing, developing from a boy body to a more adul aspect and you may be effected by that. Given that, better see the doct if this symptoms persist.

The protein flavors have added protein powders. Just get any of the normal flavors, like the one with multiple berries.

Well, exercise is a great stress reliever, but... hmm.

I don't know anything about herbal remedies to relieve stress. I would also hope that a 14 year old wouldn't need to take anything for either energy or stress relief, but who knows in this day and age?

You have my sympathies. (I have a 14 year old daughter.) Hopefully whatever it is will pass.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas! I've switched to a more-carb-then-protein diet and i definitely feel like i have more energy. Oh and i drink those Naked smoothies and i love them! They give me a ton of energy! Merry X-mas by the way!
