Keeping gut indoors in the winter

What's the word on keeping natural gut indoors for optimum longevity? It's awful dry inside with artificial heat--can this shorten natural gut's life span by making it brittle? I've of course heard about not getting it wet, but what about the opposite? Is there some preventative measures to take? (FWIW, I'll be using Bow Brand--not sure if that has a coating)

Thanks,
Craig

craig the bow brand has a coating altho not as much as most of the others. you would be fine w your gut strung frames indoors....wouldnt put them by the heat vents or fireplace obviously, but otherwise no worries. if you are worried about them, just coat w. a little canning wax which has some oil in it and that will help keep the gut supple..others say carnuba wax and some say baby oil.
