Launch and landing on Serve.

HI, my serve technuiqe is getting there, i can do the racket drop, trophy pose, knee bend , etc. My problem is the way i land. On some of my serves, i land on the back foot instead of the front foot. ANd sometimes, instead of my back foot kicking backwards, it kicks out to the side and my body leans over to the left because of this. Why is this happening, and could you guys help me to land correctly??

I bet you dont place the toss well because thats what really throws off where you land or how you land.

The placment of your toss would be my guess as quicken has suggested. If you are a righty, place your toss, especially your 1st serve toss, slightly forward and to the right so that your contact is front of your hitting shoulder. Your topspin toss could be a bit less to the right (and, perhaps, less forward than your 1st serve toss). Make sure that you are not hitting tosses on the left side of your body if you are having landing issues.

In which direction does your tossing arm rise -- toward the receiver? parallel to the base? somewhere in between? One of the latter two options is preferred.

Some coaches will say to release the ball at the top of your head. It might be helpful for you to open your fingers as your tossing hand gets up to your chin (or slightly later). Try to figure out which tossing direction & release point will get the ball to your ideal contact point.

Your initial stance may also have some bearing on the pacement of your toss and how you land. Check out the 1st 2 service Steps on the FYB site (yes, I know that he says to release near the top of your head, but this directive is not sacred).

That the website where i learnt most of my serve anyway man. My toss is usually just in line with my knee, thats what my coach told me. drop it to knee level and rise up in straight line. Ill try getting it more to the right.
