Topaz
Legend
As usual, a link and a few pics will follow. I finally figured out that I need to use my flash, even with the bright stadium lights, or things come out just too blurry. So my Agassi pics aren't what I had hoped they'd be.
Tonight I:
*Watched the first set of Spadea/Karanusic. I was impressed with Spadea. He was on the practice court for at least two hours yesterday. It seemed like everytime I went by, he was still on there. It paid off today. This match was in the grandstand, and if you sit at the very top, you can see over to the court behind you, whether it is court 1 or court 2. Behind the Spadea match, on court 2, was Delgado and Luczak...the winner of which will take on Andy Murray. So I turn around and look down into the bleachers and yup...there's Brad Gilbert, scouting the match!
*Caught the last set of Oudsema and Querrey/Erlich and Ram. High quality from Erlich and Ram. Scott and Sam had some great moments, but the more experienced team prevailed pretty easily.
*Henman/King. Great match...three close sets. Henman busted a racquet. King just didn't give up, but in the end again...experience prevailed.
*Agassi/Stoppini. *sigh* I'm trying not to be too spoilery here, but you probably already know. Agassi just was missing left and right, and he couldn't get a serve in to save his life. Way too many double faults. You could feel the crowd holding their breath every time he served! And credit to Stoppini, he didn't choke when it came time to close things out. His serve was *outstanding*. Agassi couldn't touch it. He was very gracious to the crowd at the end, though, who was standing for him regardless of course. He had a spectacular racquet bust, and a lucky person in the audience got it after the match. It guess there are perks to sitting behind the players!
*Blake/Kim. I only watched the first set. Blake was going out full throttle. He had two huge overheads that he hit so d*mn hard they were out by a mile. The rallies between these two were amazing. Kim was playing the best I'd ever seen from him. I wasn't expecting this to go to three, or I would have stayed for the whole thing.
*I finished the night with Coetzee and Hrbaty/Hanley and Ullyett. Actually, I only watched a few games...I was getting tired. But practically nobody else was in the grandstand stadium, so I could sit right up front and had a great seat for the action. The anticipation of these guys at the net is incredible!
A great day...well worth the sunburn and the sweat!
