The main difference between Vedic and Western astrology is the notion of Pariharam. If the stars are against you, you can be prescribed a set of prayers and rituals including charity work like feeding the poor to "compensate" for the Dosha (fault in the horoscope) and everything will be well. That is how Vedic astrology connects to Hinduism and why most Hindu temples have a Navagraha place with symbols of the 9 planets. I am not aware of such a link between Western astrology and Christianity. Maybe it was there in Greek and Roman times.
