Looks like a tough draw in this open tournament at the new Liga Tennis Center in Bali.
Some of the matches are being livestreamed on youtube.

In the open division there are a few guys who have won mains draw matches in an itf futures tournaments, and #1 seed has a career high ATP ranking of 39.

Good to see Marinko still getting around.

I reckon they’ve probably offered free accommodation to attract the more highly rated guys. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a huge spectrum of players given the field (about 300). Definitely a few Australian tourists.

The new facility’s courts are supposedly the same surface as the Australian Open’s.

I’ve played a few times on the courts and they felt pretty slow to me compared to most park courts. Really nice, consistent bounce, though.

Not sure if any particular perks were offered to the better players, but lots of people travel to Bali in general on a regular basis. At least a few of the guys in the open draw happened to already be there before the tournament and signed up.

5.0 +, hard to tell without hearing the level of their grunts. Must be hot there, players look gassed. Bali's a great place, Hindu culture, religious festivals happening all the time, in the country they still plow the paddies with oxen, the old ladies walk around topless--don't get too excited, they are old ladies.

Remember passing by a clay court club in downtown Ubud while touring. Bali would not be the place I would want to play a tournament in the summer heat unless I'd done a lot of training in Fresno or Bakersfield.

Haven't seen the clay court in Ubud, but I have played on the one in Seminyak.

The weather is usually mid 80s and humid during the day but never gets much hotter. The highest temperature it reaches is still below New York and many parts of the East Coast in the summer.

The tournament venue has 2 indoor courts and 4 outdoors. I think they are planning on building a roof over 2 of the outdoor courts.

Is that really Marinko Matosevich?? The draw says so. His level of play is so much lower than when he was on the tour just a few years ago. It almost looksn like a different person. It could be the heat, or he's just not putting much effort. I believe the top seeded players in these league get paid by the league to travel for tournaments, like they do in Europe.

I doubt he has played much tennis since he retired. Even before he called it a day, he'd been on tour very little - injuries really killed his last couple of years.
