Little by little a weapon is showing itself

I´ve been playing for two years and i´ve said it before here, i think i´m not that bad, i´m working on a more straight forward game, i used to chip and slice too much, i am quite a junk baller, i drop shot from anywhere and i´m not bad a it but as i climb and play against better rivals, i noticed that a junk baller cannot climb much further so i´m trying to play more topspin and to restrain myself from slicing and dropshoting any oportunity i get, instead i´m working on getting to every ball and attack with heavy topspin or with a flattish shot. Outside my crazy spins i didn´t had any weapon but lately i´ve been trying to set up points so i can flat my forehand and get a winner or an aproach shot so i can get to the net, i has been a good 6 months but its starting to show, today i can say that a real weapon began to show it face, consistently i got set up shots that gave me a nice ball between waist and shoulder height and i blasted those balls with a so satisfying pop, not all of them were winners, i´m still working on direction but almost all of them passed liking the net low bouncing and the ones that my opponent managed to get, were straigth to the net, they had a nice pace and i can honestly say tha at last i have something that could pass for a weapon.

I´m happy.

Tennis is a journey, some take a direct approach while others take the scenic route. No right or wrong way to learn tennis, it's what's right for you. Learn every shot you can possibly think of, you never know when it will come in handy. I think this is why Federer can improvise at opportune times because he learned an all-court game from the get go.

I think some folks work on what they feel comfortable with but neglect other parts of their game and so they have weaknesses. Experiment, use different shot selections but remember, there is always room for improvement. Weapons are great but you need a level of competency in all strokes. Food for thought.

I couldn't agree more, it's almost an obsession for me to learn every stroke I can possibly think of, I can say that I can hit with variety from both wings, I am the only one from my practice group that works so hard on variety, every day I learn something new I realize that I still have so much to learn.
