French tennis has been rocked by the death of world number 119 Mathieu Montcourt.

The 24-year-old was reportedly found dead in the stairwell of his Paris apartment, and while the cause of death is currently unknown, foul play is not suspected.

"It is with great sadness that the French tennis federation has learned of the sudden death of Mathieu Montcourt," the FFT said.

"Mathieu was an enthusiastic young man, passionate, very endearing, and extremely appreciated for his kindness and politeness."

Montcourt was handed a five-week ban and fined $12,000 last August for betting on other matches, although his original eight-week suspension was reduced on appeal after he argued that he had never bet more than $3 at a time.

He played in this year's French Open where he lost to Radek Stepanek in the second round.

What a real shame :(

Legend
Well... Maybe not currently there were no drugs found in his system, but maybe something he did took a toll on his heart or something along those lines. 24 year olds just dont die out of the blue for no reason. There has to be contributing cause

They most certainly do.
