Medvedev to beat Nadal

At the risk of having Rafa fans go mad at me and claim im not his real fan i do not think he will beat Medvedev.

Rafa has always had problems with guys who hit flat. Medvedev is only hitting mid twenties rpms spinrate off both wings. This is a quick court. I think back to davydenko and nalbandian and in conditions like in Montreal he struggled. He is also not yet match tight compared to Medvedev.

Medvedev has been awesome on hard courts this season and was Djokovics biggest challenge in Australia earlier in the year.

For Rafa this will be a brilliant match for his preparations even if he loses, just like the loss to Thiem in Barcelona helped him click into gear.

Its a good opportunity to get competitive match practice against a similar player to Djokovic. Even a loss today, as long as Rafa is not hammered, will really help him moving forward.

As for Medvedev if he wins today the key for him is how he follows it up. Too many of the next gen flatter to deceive.

That is an insult for djokovic..

And for the match, don't fear too much. Rafa is not losing a set, let alone the match; or heck even more than 4 games in a set

It's up to Medvedev's serve imo. If he is bombing his first serve in Rafa will have to hope for good fortune in tb and has a good chance of losing. If Medvedev isn't serving well Rafa will grind him down and expose his less than great movement by finding his usual angles.

And by the way, Novak was playing at about 50% of his capability in that Aussie match. It's actually an indictment of Daniil that he didn't have the endurance to really have a chance to win that match.

My concern is Rafa is hitting short at moment and not yet found his DTLF. Not that im too worried as its about peaking in 4 weeks time..not today.

I think it will be a tough battle but Medvedev has choked a lot in important matches this season (MC semifinal, Wimbledon 3rd round, Washington final) so I think he will just loose in 3.

Be interesting to see how Medvedev handles it today.

Well imo it won't necessarily be about depth today anyway. He can do a lot of damage at the net and with angles against a player like Daniil. At this stage in Rafas career he needs to understand that he is so skilled and intelligent and he needs to lean on that rather than get into a baseline grindfest which is exactly what someone with easy power like Medvedev wants.

Rafa to win in two pretty straight-forward sets. 6-3 6-4. ;) This is Medvedev's first Masters final. He'll be tight and nervous as hell.;)

Daniil is able to keep the ball in the game and has rock solid BH. So yeah, he definitely has chances to beat Nadal.

Rafa will have to play his best to have a chance, no?

Medvedev is on fire right now. Maybe he will struggle with Nadal because he is a lefty and will hook his forehand out to the backhand if not I expect Medvedev to win in straight sets.

@StrongRule is that you?

Rafa will destroy Medvedev. Baseline bots need more against Rafa.

It will be hard for Djoko to get the M1000 record. That’s what bothers me.

Why? It would not be that big of an achievement. Rafa and Djoker will all have similar master titles and Djokers is better distributed.

Plus, Djoker has all of them, and the masters platform will change eventually anyways.

Me...and i was wrong. The first game was the match.

Rafa basically out foxed medvedev. Variety seems to confuse the Next Gen

I dunno...I saw @StrongRule saying he'd beat Nadal 6-1, 6-2, then you, I'm just wondering why Medvedev of all people. Just cuz he looked good against everyone else doesn't mean he's gonna look great vs Nadal. This is Nadal.

Medvedev was going to beat Nadal but then Nadal remembered that if he lost Tio would beat him far worse than Madlad so Rafa channelled his inner RAFA.

I have called that poster out several times now on his "predictions" and ridiculous, pretty baseless negative nancy sort of attitude but he has nothing to say once he is proven wrong. Pretty much every match this tournament, he had Rafa losing in the pro match section lol. Just a damn hater.

Worst Nadal fan even if we can even call him a Nadal fan. He only gloats about Nadal when Nadal wins but has 0 confidence before Nadal plays a match or during. Basically a chicken.

Oh definitely not a fan from what I have gathered. Never has anything positive to say, in fact quite the opposite. Pretends to be a fan of the 'younger' Rafa but even that is shaky grounds. Besides, would someone like that really be considered as a fan then who not only overlooks more recent achievements, but in fact belittles them? We all know how that goes on TW anyway.

Masters 1000 are on two surfaces (disgracefully). Rafa has more on hard than Nole on clay so isnt rafas more distributed?

No not really.

Nadal (Masters conversion on hardcourt) - 10/71 = 14.1%
Djokovic (Masters conversion on clay) - 9/37 = 24.3%

Nadal has 3 more chances a year to win more hardcourt Masters than Djokovic does on clay.

OP and strongboringdrivelrule are not part of the Nadal family on here. We have booted these 2 jabronis out for their overly pessimistic hot takes. BE GONE FOOLS

Well whatever, both are by far the greatest ever and can win anywhere on anything

Except I support Rafa through the bad times....many of his' fans' on here disappear in those moments so I tend to put on ignore the glory hunting Rafa fans.
