Multiple dampeners - legal?

Hi all,

Assuming that the dampeners are placed in the right location, is it legal to have mulitple dampeners? I never saw any pros using multiples but I saw a woman at the courts today with multiple worm dampeners in her racket (different colors too so it has that rainbow effect). Is it legal? Also, how about different combination of dampeners, for example, a worm dampener and an O dampener? Maybe any type of dampener and a rubber band?

Just wondering here. Thanks.

Not too sure about that, but I do know that it screws with the balance too much to put more than one

there was a thread on this earlier regarding the placement of the dampener..but according to the rule it said something like this: "ONE dampening device may be placed under the last cross string" or something like that...search somewhere.

i went and looked at usta's rules and all it says is "these devices may only be places on the outside ofthe pattern of the cross strings"

Thanks for all the replies. I am aware of the placement (outside of the pattern of the cross strings).
As for legality of multiples, it should be only one as Snoflewis mentioned above. Anybody else? Agree or disagree with one only dampener as legal?

When I first started to play tennis--like 14ish--I had three dampeners on my racket...two Wilson W's and a long Prince dampner at the top. I had no idea why I did, save to say it looked cool. I didn't really notice that much of a playability difference, and I know many on this forum will claim that playing with a vibration dampner only affects the noise produces by the strings.

I don't know of any official rule, save to say that you can't place it on the middle of the racket; doing so would make a type of spin generated impossible to measure and predict by the opponent.

Does anybody remember the old sponge dampeners that looked like a ball when you put them in your strings? I remember one guy had one in every other slot on his string bed. They were all on the outside edge to be legal, but it went all the way around the entire frame. I guess he either liked the look or just really wanted to dampen the racket. My guess would be that it probably felt like crap.

Yellow and black sponge dampeners!

Oh the memories i had of using them were great.

I placed them at throat and head and both sides.

This arrangement of dampeners looked weird and i received some comments. :)

But they stopped making them. :(
