I've been away from the board for a little while during the holidays and what a sad turn of events to come back to....
Watching Murray in that press conference was so emotional, I can only imagine how his lifelong fans felt.
I can't add much that is new in praise of this man, but will say this - we on this board and the tennis fandom in general take rivalries too seriously - always measuring and comparing achievements; seeing the respect and heartfelt accolades from his peers, it should tell us that when these guys compete at the highest levels on the biggest stages, they get bonded together in a way that will never separate them. 50 years on they can look back and still feel the closeness of their encounters when they offered each other their rawest, most intimate sporting self on court and whether they came out winning or losing, only they can appreciate what they had to give - and that is a respect none of us comparing dead numbers on a sheet of paper can ever understand.
