My modified Surge

I added a total of 1 oz to my Surge as follows:
14 grams at 3 and 9 o'clock
14 grams at the butt cap

Before stats:
11 oz
5 pts headlight
312 swingweight(according to TW)

After:
12 oz
7.3 pts headlight
337 swingweight(TW + my calculations)

I feel that this has made a big improvement to the racket. It definitely has better stability, control, power and comfort. The better control comes from being able to swing slower to generate the same ball speed. It is also much more arm friendly with the decrease in shock to the wrist and elbows. If anyone has a Surge(or other racket), you may want to give this a try.

Just be careful. After a month, you'll be swinging at the speed before you added the lead. Just make sure to remember to keep the swing speed low.

I'm having a little trouble keeping the ball in sometimes but I'm adjusting.

I've added the weight to make the Surge more of a "player" racket weight and balance, but most of all to prevent injuries, taking advice from racquetresearch.com. According to that site, the higher the swingweight and lower the moment(static torque at 10cm from butt) the better. That's why I added 14 grams to the butt cap, to counterbalance the weight at 9 and 3 o'clock as much as possible. In fact, I don't see why anyone should ever add any weight at all to the throat area. The best places are 9 and 3 o'clock, which adds a good amount of swingweight and increases torsional stability, and the butt cap, which gives the most counterbalancing and reduces the torque your hand feels while holding the racket still and level.

im selling my surge because it is too light and stiff. i could customize it like you to player specs, but i want a more flexy, more control oriented racquet, the PS 6.0 95.

well i dont know how to explain that. or the enormous vibrations i get from hitting the sweetspot. not good.

plus, i dont wanna screw around with customizing it anyways. seems like too much of a hassle. plus, i dont have one of those balances for racquets.

I know what you mean about the vibrations. It's more of an annoyance than anything else because I hear it more than feel it. The added weight has reduced the vibrations somewhat but it's still there. I'm sure a dampener will muffle that sound.

I also recently added an ounce to my SurgeX with wide head tape all along the frame and then like 3 layers at 3 and 9 o'clock. It's playing better than ever after I had given up on in this spring for swinging too fast and causing too many errors. Now it's pretty solid for all parts of my game. I had boughten it because it was a good serving racquet in demos and still is.

You used head tape instead of lead tape? I thought head tape wasn't that heavy just for protection?

Doesn't the tape have to be removed before restringing? It seems that may be a pain if you are a frequent string breaker.
