My Yonex RDX500 mid has got a "frozen butter" feel!

How dare some people claim the Yonex RDX500 mid to have a "buttery feel"!?

I have tried my Yonex RDX500 mid a couple of times now.
I have strung it, with a power poly sort of string, yes a poly, but I generally like poly strings, also in my Head Classic mid.
I have added 12 X 3 inch unique leadtape strips at 3 and 9 o'clock and about 8 strips in the handle.
And this racquet just won't feel right.
It feels quite stiff, no feel, no cupping of the ball, the sweetspot doesn't feel sweet.
The feel is dynamicless, just a muted tick sound.
I never get the feeling as if I'm really crushing the ball.
I just feel mislead.

It's either this or I have obtained a "lunch break" Yonex RDX500 as Deuce once mentioned about a Head Premier Tour.
Actually, this racquet feels very similar to my Head Premier Tour, I used to have, with the Premier Tour even cutting thru the air with more ease.

I'm desperate!

Well, I have 2 PC600s and even strung 15lbs lower than my RDX500 Mid, they are still harsher than the RDX.
"Lunch Break" model indeed!
So...can I have it?

Try using a synthetic gut string at around 58-60lbs. Polys do not provide feel. Even the softer ones I've tried, don't have much feel to them, although some of them are quite good all around.

My recommendation is to try Ashaway Liberty at about 58/55 to 60/57 and see what you think. A good multi would be worth trying as well, but the Liberty is not only soft, but cheap too. A better multi to try would be Yonex Tour Super 850. Oh, Babolat Powergy has the best feel of any synthetic I've tried so far. I string it at the same tension as Liberty, it's plays similarly with more feel. It's just not as cheap.

What tension are you using? You obviously realize that polys are not soft and it's pretty darn difficult to achieve a buttery feel with them in any racquet...even the flexy old Max 200G.

That said, first issue is tension. This racquet does not need to be in the upper range. I have found 56 pound mains and 54.5 pound crosses works well. Second issue is string type. Multifiliment strings provide the most feel, short of gut. Much more "buttery" than poly, if that is what you are trying to achieve.

The Yonex RDX 500 mid feel is very muted, even when you are churning butter with it. Doesn't come close to the soft buttery feel of the Estusa PBB, but rather it is more like margarine...just not the real deal. Still, it should feel much better than you describe.

I have mine RDX 500 Mid Grip L5 strung with Klip Legend 17 at 57/55 and it plays with a buttery feel. I initially had prince synthetic gut original (NOT duraflex) and it played well with this string as well. I did not apply lead to the RDX 500 Mid like I did to the MP Tour-5. I think the RDX 500 Mid plays fine without lead tape.

Regardless, I am sorry to hear that the RDX 500 Mid has not worked out for you, at least with your current setup.

That only goes to show you not to rely on other peeps comments on racquets . you have been here a while to know that whats good for one does not necessarily mean it will be good for another .

And can you explain to me what buttery feel is?

i too did not like the feel at all. Racket felt like it was stiffer than specs indicated, more head heavy than indicated, and just worse than i thought it would be. Really didnt like the racket at all.

I have to say the 500 is a string picky racket. I hated it when i tried it with alu and an all ply setup. Then i put in some soft multi - was pretty good but too mushy, then i put in my current setup- love it. It really works best with a crisp multi. Do yourself a favor and play around with tensions and strings, soon you will find one that you like. Also i dont know how you think that it is stiff because it certainly isint, it is too flexy for most of my friends tastes. Also dont put so much lead on the throat it may have created your undesireable sweetspot, try putting a coin on the butcap and work with lead.

lesson of the day: demo first bc what works for someone may not work for you, what feels one way to someone may feel differently for you

I have the same experience as you. just plain poly just feels dead. never goin back to 100% poly again on the RDX. Do a string that's "poppy" like a syn gut of some sort, like Xcel, or Prince Syn Gut

Unfortuanately Ashaway Liberty strings aren't available in Holland, Europe.
Right now I have it strung at 26/24 kilos, which isn't too much, I think!?

No, the tension isn't too much, but Poly does not have good feel in this frame. What are your choices in Holland. Can you get Babolat Powergy? That is a really nice feeling string as well. If not, post some options and maybe we can help you find a good choice.

We have Powergy, which is about 20 dollars, Wilson NXT, which is almost 30 dollars and just most Babolat, Head, Wilson, Luxilon, Gosen strings.

Get the Powergy. Powergy is better than NXT for me. I think it has more feel. I like it at 60/57, but I tend to like control over power. If you prefer power, you may want to drop it a couple of pounds.
