Why assume that even if Nadal doesn't defend all his points that Djokovic will win all the clay tournaments? People doubt Nadal's record on clay more than they doubt Djokovic's!!!! From my recollection, Djokovic only made one clay final last year which was MC.

Djokovic doesn't win slams anymore, so its a moot point. If Djokovic doesn't beat Nadal at the slams this year, Nadal has his 4th year-ending #1 (and that's only one less than Federer btw). And let me remind you that Djokovic hasn't won a slam outside of Australia since 2011 :lol:

Nadal was healthy at Miami, he just didn't go down-the-line - and I respect that, because he goes down-the-line far more at slams, and that is by design. Nadal plays differently at slams, and Djokovic plays differently at slams. That's why their h2h is opposite at slams compared to non-slams: In 2013 Djokovic won 3 of their 4 non-slam meetings, while Nadal won both of their slam meetings.

Rafa has always had a lot of points to defend on clay since 2005 and he has always won at least 1 Masters 1000 ;) On clay, Djokovic has trouble against much more players than Rafa, last year Nole lost against Dimitrov in Madrid, and Berdych in Rome. Rafa may not defend all his points on clay but it's very unlikely that he loses early in all the tournaments. He doesn't need to win everything to stay #1. He will probably stay close to Djokovic until Wimbledon where he can increase the gap even if he loses early since he has nothing to defend and Djoko a final (1200 pts).

MONTE CARLO COUNTDOWN:
2013. The 9th final in Monte Carlo. Nadal lost to Djokovic 6-2, 7-6 in the final. Nadal had to save multiple breakpoints just to avoid a bagel in the first set. Djokovic was recovering from an ankle injury sustained 2 weeks prior in a DC match and wasn't even sure he will be able to play in the tournament. He was happy he did.

Djokovic won Monte-Carlo last year, but he wasn't even able to reach the final of Madrid nor Rome ;). Rafa won both of them.

The difference between the King of Clay who won :
- 8 Monte-Carlo Masters,
- 7 Rome Masters,
- 1 Hambourg Masters,
- 2 Madrid Masters (clay),
- 8 Roland Garros,

... and Djokovic (1 year younger than Nadal), who's only won in his career :
- 1 Monte-Carlo Masters (beaten by Nadal in 2009 and 2012),
- 1 Rome Masters (beaten by Nadal in 2007, 2009, 2012 :shock: )
- 1 Madrid Masters,
- 0 Roland Garros (beaten by Nadal in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2012, 2013 :shock: )

I'm not even talking about Federer who's spent his whole career losing to Nadal on clay, the reason why most of his fans root for Djokovic who's a much stronger for Nadal :razz:

Yes, that's why no one is claiming that Nadal will win Wimbledon. Of course he can win Wimbledon but I haven't seen anyone, least of all his fans, making him the favourite.

After Djokovic won MC last year he was tipped to rule on clay for the rest of the season. He did not win a single match in Madrid, went out in the Qtrs. in Rome and the SF at the FO. Meanwhile, Nadal swept the board after being the runner-up in MC.

Some of you need a reality check.

"It's a tricky question, because I don't know - he hasn't played yet. I hope so. I gave it 100% and I got a lot of praise from Nadal's coach," says Andreas Moltke-Leth.

The Dane trains every day at an academy on Mallorca, but he was in Denmark when the approach from Nadal came.

"The owner of the academy knows Nadal's coach Toni who wanted to know if the academy had a player who had the level to hit with Nadal.

"They rang me and I took a plane to Mallorca. I was on the court Monday and hit for a few hours with Nadal, and afterwards they asked me if I wanted to hit the next day and possibly the rest of the week. And it went from there.

"I ended up hitting with him until Thursday, and he left Friday for Monte Carlo," says Andreas Moltke-Leth, for whom it was an excellent learning experience.

"It was exciting, difficult and fantastic to play with the world's number one, and on clay, which is his favourite surface. He's the king of clay," says the young Dane.

"All the training was built up around Nadal, and I had different tasks. I tried to remind myself that he was ordinary flesh and blood, and it went so well he wanted to hit with me the whole week," says Moltke-Leth.

He has a few things to take away from his meeting with the world's number one.

"It doesn't matter with whom he's practising or playing against, he gives 100%. He's totally on, and it's like he's playing the most important match of his life.

"I'm taking that with me, because I have a tendency to drop in tempo when I meet a player who's not as good as I am."

Nadal's method of building up his practices around small modules of 20 minutes' length followed by 10 minutes rest has also inspired the Dane.

"He cools his body down a bit, and then he has to find his level and rhythm again - and again. He does that about seven times per practice session, where I normally do it only twice, because I don't take as many breaks," says Moltke-Leth.

The Dane hopes to become a top-ten player himself. Nadal had a few parting words for him.

"He said good luck with my career, and I'd have a nice future if I gave 100%.

"I know I'm talented, but it's all about hard work. A lot of factors have to come together before I break through, so those words weren't what meant the most to me this last week," he says.

Nadal is top seeded in Monte Carlo and will see action Monday at the earliest.
