OHBH Blade 98 to PS95 or other???

Hey guys/gals,

I have switched from a THBH to a OHBH pretty successfully, but still don't necessarily feel the OHBH is dialed in. I am currently playing with the Blade 98 18x20 string pattern with a little weight in the handle to make it headlight. I'm thinking of trying something different such as a Wilson Prostaff 95 or an Angell TC95. I am leaning more on the Prostaff because of the popularity and ease of getting one aftermarket.

Can anybody recommend which PS95 to get? There are so many. I'm a fairly aggressive all-court player playing at 3.5. My reason of switching from THBH is that I have tendonitis in the biceps tendon and it gets aggravated when I cross with my THBH.

If you have any other racquets you ca recommend for a OHBH I'd greatly appreciate it.

If you're accustomed to an 18x20 and looking for a more head light racquet, I would recommend the Six.One 95 if you can find the one they re-released in 2017. Once you add a leather grip, it will be close to upper 12 ounces and greater than 9 points head light which you may or may not like. It will be very stable since its so heavy and has foam in the frame, its also gonna be easy to swing and very maneuverable.

I may not use the Pro Staff 95 since its so light and you're gonna need all the weight you can get in a racquet for the one handed backhand.

Thank you so much for your reply. I tried to look for that racquet, but it is so hard to find! Do you play OHBH and do you have any other recommendations? The worst case scenario is to stick with the Blade 98 and learn to adapt--I guess between 95 and 98 its not that big of a difference.

That's my only recommendation since I haven't tried too many racquets lately. It could be all personal preferences so you may have to demo for yourself. I hope others will chime in.

Yonex 97 or 95 both compliment a OHBH very well. Lots of room for customization as well to really dial them in. Stable in stock form too

You can weight up that Blade and achieve a really nice racquet....(for any backhand)
Thanks a lot. I have put some blue putty in the handle. In order to put it head light because that seems to be the thing to do, should I focus on in around the handle and not around the hoop? Thank you.

I might be a horrible example, but I added 18 grams of Blu-Tac into the handles and 1 gram at 3 and 1 gram at 9 for stability.

Pro staff 95 is awesome for it.
Cuts through the air faster than the blade.
More precise.
More headlight.
A racquet that rewards aggressive play.
You may have to lead it up.

Only not as dense as the 18x20 string bed which you might not be used to

Thanks. Which rendition of the prostaff are you referring to? I feel like there are so many between the classic, blx, anniversary, etc. . .

I would actually get the TFight 315 LTD 18x20, or the Microgel Radical MP and modify them to how you want them. They are low powered, but you can add weight to make them potent. The feel and the ease of swing is top notch. The prices can’t be beat right now.

The best frame would be the Prince Phantom 93P, though.

The BLX Pro Staff 2012, Pro Staff 95 (2014), and the Pro Staff 95 25th anniversary (which is black and red) are all technically the same. I only used these three but these are the ones I was referring to.

The BLX Pro Staff 95 that came out in 2012 is the softest of the three.

The 2014 model slightly less soft, sweet spot felt slightly larger

The 25th anniversary model was in between both of those. However, the paintjob was the best to ever exist(!)

However, all three are good. The differences are very minute and you wouldn't be able to tell them apart unless you've used them for a while.

I won't comment on the slightly power differences due to Wilson's quality control.

I have had the same experience switching from a two hander to OHBH using the Blade 98 18x20. I felt my backhand better dialed in with the Head Youtek IG Radical MP. Try it, phenomenal racket imo. Not that the Blade is a worse racket, it's all preference.

I still have trouble choosing between the Blade and the Radical for my league games.

Thanks for the response. I may try to play around with some lead to see if I can get the Blade better for the OHBH. I really like the backhand and the thin beam. I also like how soft the 18x20 plays and I think the radical is stiffer.

The IG Radical MP to me feels more soft and comfy than the Blade.
