Open Letter To The Djoker. Do Not Jeopardize CYGS By Chasing Olympic Gold.

CYGS has been achieved only once by a male player in the Open Era.

It must be the highest priority. If you feel fine, go for the gold! But if you have any doubt whatsoever you need to drop the Olympics from the schedule and make sure you win the U.S. Open.

Put it this way. Which is more valuable:

(A) Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and U.S. Open. No Olympic Gold.

(B) Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and Olympic Gold.

You are using common sense. Common sense is overestimated. He is here because he did not obey to common sense.
And you are telling him to use common sense now. It is against common sense.

Every smart person follows common sense. Only dunderheads do not follow common sense.

He can go for Golden Slam but he just needs to understand that the Grand Slams are more important than the Olympics and be prepared to withdraw from Tokyo, if necessary, to focus on NYC.

Just as Fed withdrew from Paris to focus on London.

If he wins Wimbledon his ego will not let him pass up the opportunity to equal Steffi’s Golden Slam

What is the big risk of playing the Olympics?

The format is a 64 draw, single elimination, on hard courts with best 2 out of 3 sets.

The tournament starts on July 24th and ends August 1st, which is 30 days before the US Open.

Playing in the Olympics is no different than playing one of the warmup MS1000 tournaments in the summer, like Cincinatti or the Canadian Open. He'll have plenty of time to rest and be ready for the US Open, especially if he just swaps the Olympics instead of one of the MS1000 events.

Please send in your suggestions on what else he needs to focus more on this year. We will discuss and may even work on some of them. The last call still has to be taken by Novak himself. So, for now I cannot promise you much but will forward your suggestions to the team.

Hey I am the guy Novak hired for collecting suggestions from Internet experts. After drinking some beetroot juice he is sitting next to me watching football. He says that only I decide what he does, no need for any final call from him.

I have advised him to lose in R3 of WB and USO. And he has readily agreed.

PS we are still working out how will that happen because nobody in draw would actually take 3 sets off of him. So we are coming up with ingenious ideas : How about pulling a shapo with the umpire this time at USO? Or the Queen when she visits WB this year?

Think about it this way. If he gets golden slam AND another couple of slams to take him to 23/24, he seals the GOAT debate and ends the 'pound for pound' arguments we have been hearing for some time. No harm done in going for it. With Nadal out, his path to Olympic gold got easier already.

He could win the Olympics and at the same time use it as a preparation for the US Open instead of one of the Masters he would play otherwise (and usually also attempts to win). So I don’t see a problem here.

There is enough of a gap between olympics and us open. Just over 4 weeks. Plus olympics except the final is BO3. He will be fine playing it. He can just drop both American masters events this year if he needs extra rest.

And not even that anymore. For the last time it was in 2016, now it's Best of 3 as well. It's a shame though.
Is it? Alright good to know. Yeah that’s a shame. Although it’s less taxing tournament. Even more of a reason Novak playing it won’t jeopardise his us open.

Plus there’s a 3 week gap after Wimbledon to Olympics too which is fine if they all BO3 matches.

It’s the french to Wimbledon 2 week turnaround that’s the most tricky for djoko. Still he appears in great physical condition this year and at his mental peak again. He should be fine provided he starts well and gets an ok draw to ease his way in.

Novak wants Olympic gold. His reaction in 2016 to losing proves it means a lot to him

Just to him then...

I see a lot people in TTW making it sound the Olympic is sooooo important in tennis when all they are doing is moving the goal post against Djokovic.
Olympic is close to nothing.

Well said. He doesn't even need to play any of the other masters if he doesn't want to. Olympics is over nearly a month before USO. He will be fresh to compete.

And this is true, whether he wins W or not. He can still go for the gold, and play USO in good health.

But if he wins all slams, Olympics and WTF , that would be the greatest season in history.

Who says he can't do it , if he skips a few masters etc ?

Chief among his considerations is that Serbia wins very few medals, not to mention gold.

He has the whole of August to recover. If he still feels worn down by then, he'll just sacrifice Rogers and Cincy, which he probably would do in any case.

I was going to say something along these lines. Novak may not even be thinking solely of himself, but of what him being at the Olympics to bring Serbia glory means for Serbia. In the scheme of Tennis may the Olympics aren't as important, but in other ways they may hold a lot of value.

Can you imagine trying to tell the Father of the Son of God you won’t be pulling on the red, white and blue (and a mask) in Tokyo?

Exactly! Slams are old hat to them; there have been 19 of them. But a gold medal will certainly bring celebrations to the streets of Belgrade.
