Holmes: Having discussed this earlier with Watson, I thought I'd ask what the general opinion here would be.
Let us say, for the sake of this conversation/poll/thread only, that Roger Federer is guaranteed one major slam only this year, and he will beat his nemesis in the final of that major...
Which do you think HE would choose it to be? I'm not asking which would YOU would like him to win (or not win).
The French Open?
Would he like to add to his one French Open title with a victory against Nadal, having lost to him a few times already? Perhaps this would improve his overall standing in the eyes of some as regards his clay court ability, and counter the argument that his French Open title doesn't count genuinely as he didn't play Ralph in the final. (The latter aren't my own thoughts, just some I've read here and elsewhere.)
Wimbledon?
Having lost that very memorable final against Ralph in 2008, would he like to regain the Wimbledon Crown that he held convincingly for so long, and prove that he can beat him on the Wimby grass once more? He'd also tie Sampras with 7 titles here if he were to choose this option.
The US Open?
He's never played Ralph on this surface, hence there's less history to influence his choosing this one. That said, he hasn't won it for 3 years now, tied with the fact that he hasn't played Nadal here, might just make him want to choose this option.
