Prince Phantom 93P VS Youtek Prestige Mid

I currently play with a Youtek Prestige Mid and was looking around for similar spec racket. The Prince 93 is the closest I can find. Granted Prince is a true 93 with a round head shape leading to a larger sweet spot compared to Prestige Mid which is 89.5, how does the prince do in the feel and control department compared to the mid? To me, feel and feedback is more important. I was trying to move up in size few years ago and tried the Prince Textreme 95 but the feel was not close the prestige mid. I'm hoping this new prince 93 has something similar to my prestige mid. Can anyone played with both compare? I am a mid to high 4.5 level player with a strong baseline game and decent at the net. Thanks.

93P is superior to YT Prestige Mid and TX95 in just about every way.

It's more powerful, solid and forgiving. Upsides all around IMO. Go get it.

The 93P is a very popular racquet and much loved on these forums. I tried it for a few weeks, but did not make the switch. I know my voice will be the minority, but I think you should also check out the Graphene Touch Prestige Mid. It is a true 93sq in, with good plow through, thin beam (not as thin as 93p), and what I ultimately switched to.

For background.

I played primarily with the IG Prestige Pro for the better part of two years, loved Mid - but the 89.5 of the Mid was too demanding.

I'm another 93P convert. I just love this racket as far as feel and control goes. Power is just right for me and I can swing out and keep the ball in. I can hit proper slices for the first time in decades. I make some shots that are so good I surprise my opponents (and myself). The highs are really high with this racket but it demands the user be on his game as its not as forgiving of bad footwork and focus as certain popular brands out there.

Unfortunately I can't compare to other mids as I haven't played a mid since the 90's. But this racket reminds me why many people love their mids. Beautiful balance, comfort and crispness.

Same as you, exactly. When I am on my game, this racquet is a thing of beauty. When I am not on my game... well, let's not talk about it.

Not the easiest racquet to play, but I am having way too much fun with it to give it up.

I went out on a limb and ordered the Prince 93P. Should arrive later this week. Planning to put Premier Control and Tour XP cross to match the racket cosmetics. Can't wait. If I am stringing the Prestige mid at 46 and 44 lbs in mains/cross respectively with the above strings, what tension you guys recommend for this frame?

I played with the many variations of the Prestige Mids, including the original TXP and the last great Head Mid, which is the IG Prestige Mid. While I agree that the feel can be debated, there is no comparison as far as ease of use goes. The 93P feels like I’m playing with much bigger hitting surface than any mids that I’ve hit with.

Great thread. Am hitting with the IGYT prestige mid at the moment and the feel is just heavenly. Also have been wondering about the 93P but haven't been convinced enough to shell out the money to buy it yet :(

The feel of the IGYTP mid is fantastic. Wish the sweet spot was larger. :(

I string full poly, 17 gauge at 44ish pounds in the P93. Not sure if that helps, but it’s a fantastic setup.

I honestly would not string a frame to match the cosmetics, but thats just me. I’d go with a setup that you like and are familiar with. I personally use RS Lyon in everything, so it makes it a lot easier for me to simply adjust the tension and I’m done.

How does the 93P compare to the Ultra Tour? :)

I have an Ultra Tour that I’m trying to match the specs to the 93P. As far as the feels goes, I would say the UT tops the 93P. I would even say that the UT feels better than the TFight 315 LTD. That said, I can’t quite understand why it’s so low powered when the SW is over 320. It’s really a mystery to me because even the TFight 315 LTD, which is known for being low powered feels more powerful (*though less stable than the Ultra Tour) when both were played stock. The 93P is hefty with the 330 SW, but it’s really easy to swing & hits precise and heavy balls. I don’t feel any need to mod the 93P. I would say I prefer the 93P right now because I prefer not to mod.

I honestly think you will love the 93P.

Thx, bud! Sounds like I may have to add a 93P to my collection eventually then. For penetration, the Ultra Tour requires me to extend through the ball more on my groundstrokes. When I do this, there’s enough power. If I’m rushed and unable to extend fully, that’s when the low powered nature of the frame is most noticeable.

I agree with you that the feel of the UT is better than that of the TF 315 Ltd. I tried both patterns and preferred the 16/19 but the UT feels better.

Yes, the feel is heavenly with the prestige mids but if I can get the same feel from the prince which is more forgiving, it's worth the switch for me. I should get the racket in a couple of days, will string and hit this weekend and post my comparison.
I played a couple of sets with my tennis buddy with the prince. I have to say I liked it on some shots but when I am stretched out defensively, the frame shows it's true colors and it's not an easy racket to play with. I liked every other aspect of the frame. I have a few Youtek Prestige Pros that I have in my bag. It's an easy transition for me to those from the youtek mid staying within the youtek line because of the feel I am used to it. Bottom line - nothing wrong with the the Prince 93P, it's not a racket I am switching to.

I just sold a PT600 because it could not give me the same on serve or backhands that the 93P gives. Rounder headshape is great for additional spin as well. Feels right at home with the 93P after years with the PSL. I only really found the special feeling after stringing high 40s low 50s again, just seem to gravitate toward this tension even if it caused issues in the past.

Mine is pretty heavily modified now, flared the buttcap, 3-5 grams at 12, 4 grams in throat and revolution strings. Pretty much my perfect set up but will try gut hybrids again and softer control polys.

Glad you found what works for you, good luck finding a replacement if you move away from it :)

You make me wish I bought the missing IG in my collection - have Mid, MP and S...

I’ve not tried the i.prestige mid before. :( The best head mid that I’ve tried is still the pc600 IMO. :)

I have 3 PT600 :) But there is something about i.Prestige Mid that makes me reach for it.

I've played a couple of years with TFight 315 LTD (have both, prefer 18x20) and for me Ultra Tour also feels better. However still prefer them from Wilson – I guess I prefer the copy of PT57 mold than larger H19.

I loved the IGPM, but the 93P is pretty much better in every aspect. It really feels easier to play than any mids I’ve hit with.

I am getting older every day and despite the fact I love the feel of Prestige Tour 600 and IG Prestige Mid - I am having hard time with them being the one to defend.
