Pro Staff Classic 6.0?

I just received a Prostaff 6.1 in the mail today; I think it was one of the earliest versions, it says, "Prostaff Classic" in the old font, and next to it, the little swing index icon with a "6.0" in it; on the other side it says, "Braided Graphite/Kevlar Composite: 80% graphite, 20% kevlar." The buttcap code is XYG, and the buttcap is white. Inside the throat, the tension range is specified in kg, and the Wilson recommends Fairway leather grips on the other side.

Checking my more recent black buttcaped, Times New Roman font'd Pro Staff 6.1 Stretch, there is no reference to a braided composite at all. Just as curiously, there is no reference to a Swing Index of "6.0".

Just wondering if any of you PSC gurus out there coudl tell me about this particular racquet?

Wilson PS Classic 6.1 (black, red and yellow). White butt cap, code XEW. On one side, 'Pro Staff' in large letters, 'Classic 6.1' in small cursive font; the other side, 'Wilson' in large letters, and 'Braided Graphite/Kevlar Composite' over '80% Graphite . 20% Kevlar' in small print.

Inside the throat, on one side, 'Recommended Tension Range. 55-65 lbs.' over 'Higher tensions give you more control.' over 'Lower tensions give you more power.' On the other side, a paragraph that begins 'PWS, the original Perimeter Weighting System, ...' No reference to Swing Index.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Keifers, what kind of grip does it recommend on the inside of the throat?

No grip recommendation anywhere on this frame, Onyx.

I think I know what you're referring to -- my 2005 6.0 95 says 'Use Wilson Sensation(R) String and Fairway(R) Grip' inside the throat.

The 6.0 95 also has

Good question. I also asked this to no avail, particularly if the frames are really braided, as the Classic should have been. Does yours feel braided? Here are pictures of the two frames that Andrew Slattery has stolen from me:

By the way, I obtained my frames from Germany, so that's probably where yours was sent, too. Interesting that we both have/had 16x18 euro versions, as most Classic frames later there were 18x20. Looks like you just have a slightly newer hologram sticker like that on current frames.

Hmm, you might be right. I bought mine from Minnesota of all places. I don't really know if it's actually braided or not, I haven't had a chance to hit with it much beyond the side of my apartment building.

It's too bad about Slattery though, those frames were beautifully preserved.

Let us know whether the frame feels like it is braided, will you? You might be able to tell if there is any graphite showing. You could always strip a small square of paint to see. hehe

OnyxZ28, I checked my psc6.1s today and they have the 6.0si, but printed on the inside of the throat, not outside like yours and PrestigeClassic. And yes, mine are 16x18.

Where did you get those, These are definitly the older ones. I saw Stefan Edberg warming up with these in New Haven at the Volvo years ago when he still was the top guy. I can tell they are the older ones because of the leather grips.Or the guy you bought them from replaced the grips?
