Where do I start with Scott Steiner? The usual place where I first saw him. Halloween Havoc 1990. I'll probably start rambling a bit in different directions. I'll always go back to Scott. Hopefully. Going to break it into parts.
Part 1.
WCW videotapes were not really available here in 1990, well, maybe they were, but not in the big places in city center. I'd only see WWF videos there. It changed later on. But anyway, out on trip with grandparents and Nanny/Granny would always buy me a video. I had heard about Halloween Havoc on TV. I got it because I wanted to see the Sting vs Sid Vicious main event.
All I could think about after I watched the show was Scott Steiner. The Steiner Brothers were fighting the Nasty Boys and I thought it was the best tag team match I had ever seen at the time. Was just a boy and had not seen a lot yet, so it has greater impact. It was more of a fight as well. ''You see blood on us. This isn't our blood. This is Nasty Boys blood.''
I had seen acrobatic stuff before but not on this level. This was also the first time I had seen the frankensteiner move. I know I had to rewind that countless times. By the way, Sting vs Sid wasn't very good and had some overcomplicated ending.
Damn. The Jim Ross commentary, before he became a gimmick. Something else. Yes, he was still fantastic in WWF. Here, he was more into the actual wrestling. Matches being called feels so different now. The frankensteiner might not look so special now, we have the junior heavyweights doing multi moves off the top rope and so on. Back then, it was mind-blowing.
Random note. The frankensteiner is commonly known as a hurricanrana. Of course, the frankensteiner name fits perfectly with Scott. I'll always refer to the move as a frankensteiner.
So immediately, I knew he was special. I'd read the magazines that covered all areas for a more neutral point of view. You know how WWF would only talk about WWF etc. Steiner brothers performances in WCW and the tours of Japan brought many legendary matches. I've gone back and watched most of them. I consider the Steiner's to be the best tag team of the 90s.
The one thing holding Scott back was his lack of personality. He was seen as one of those college guys, you know, strong, athletic, but not much else. That would all change later on...
Part 2 coming soon.
This is to advise everyone here that I’m not planning to post anything in this thread, in the remote case I was expected to do so.
Awesome writeup. Looking forward to part 2, sir.
Kind of cool to get that background on how you got the videos back in the day, too.
Yeah, for sure. First time I saw him, he was in the powers of pain team with the barbarian. Did a really strange angle that I didn't understand then. Mr. Fuji managed Demolition but he turned on them to join Powers of Pain. The crowd incorrectly assumed that Mr. Fuji was now a good guy. But no, he was still bad and now the powers of pain were bad. Demolition now good.Does anyone remember The Warlord?
Who???Does anyone remember The Warlord?
I still haven't gotten over Fuji waving the American flag when Yokozuna was babyface.Who???
Meltzer and Cornette mad beef these days.
Big Dave is one of those guys. He can't stand praise for anybody he dislikes. Has to take a shot at them every time they are mentioned. Disgusting behavior. The most recent thing he said is Jim Cornette should be the last person Tony Khan listens to. LOL wow.
OK then, I better send some booking tips in for uncle Tony.
Paige is finally leaving WWE. I'm guessing she will wrestle for AEW.
What is the Cornette podcast like?
Is it something that will decipherable for people who dont know that much about pro wrestling, or is it for the longtime fans only?
Very interesting comments about The Warlord! Thanks for going in-depth with that.
Resurrected Undertaker style in July 1994, when Vince was found not guilty.Didn't the big body era die with the steroid scandal in the early 90s? Even Yokozuna ballooned/bulked up!

About time they let Paige go. A damn shame they didn't use her better after the injury. Discarded her like the paper from a straw lol
I don't always agree with Jim but he's hilarious. I watch him sometimes, along with Booker t and Ric flair's YouTube shows
Booker T has a Youtube show!?! Would love to see that.
How do you access it? Is it YouTube subscription based or free?
What is Jim Cornette's main contribution to pro wrestling?

How much of an impact would you say Sabu made in ECW? I only ever really read was going on thanks to trusty ol powerslam magazine. The feud with Taz was hot. ECW is quite fascinating. I often wonder what Paul Heyman could have done if he had some money, well, more money than he was letting on. haha But then I think that style isn't sustainable. Not sure anyone will ever have the presence of The Original Sheik. Shame Sabu never had that kind of impact in ECW
Dbl shots of Fireball early in the morning is enoughRinse and repeat. Yeah, I'm well aware that recovery isn't linear. But, this guy needs help, has been offered help, but he's all, I'm alright. Yeah, typical addict behavior, of course.
It's sad but then when you're out on the road potentially killing somebody due to dangerous driving. Time for Jail. You have to say enough is enough.
I did think it was quite harsh to have a go at Matt Hardy and Reby etc. The so-called enablers. Matt went on to talk about himself being sober for a long time and that he can't be with Jeff every minute of the day.
The most uninteresting storyline reaches its conclusion. Sasha Banks out on her ear. I do care enough to click but that's as far as it goes. Bye. Sasha.
