Query about racquets...

Hi all, Im a beginner-intermediate player. From my little tennis experience I find that having a lightweight racquet which is very head-heavy would be ideal (for anybody IMO). Because lightweight makes it easy maneuverable and head heavy would give a lot of momentum into the shots. But most racquets i find are Head Light.. I couldn't understand the point of having a HL racquet which is heavy

Anybody know any good racquet which is light weight and HH? and where can i find them?

Because to handle bigger shots you need bigger static weight. A stick too might could very easily twist in your hands or sway if the ball is met off-center. Which obviously comes at the price of manoeuvrability, so the racquets are more HL to compensate. However if you're happy with a light and HH racquet, so be it.

Generally-speaking, heavy and head light = more arm-friendly and control-oriented. A heavy racquet needs to be head light in order to be maneuverable, while a light racquet needs to be head heavy in order to generate power. A heavy racquet also tends to be more stable on volleys and faster incoming balls. It can also help to prevent over-swinging, I know it helps me in that regard.

It all depends on what you like and need. Too light transmits more shock to the arm while too heavy can be hard on the shoulder, especially when serving. The Wilson Five 103 has technology that supposedly stops the shock from reaching your arm, because of its 3-piece construction.

It's not a current model, but the Wilson Six One Team BLX 16x18 is almost even balance. If you can find the 18x20, it will be a little head heavy. People from various levels like this racquet. It comes at under 11 ounces strung so it can be considered to be on the light side.

Hmm.. I havent tried much HH racquets at all. I was saying that out of my knowledge of basic physics.. I'm now playing with Volkl Orinanix6 which is 4ptsHL 9.7oz Unstrung. I find this pretty comfortable. I should demo more racquets to understand those minor dynamics. Anybody know any good HH racquets. As far as i know Wilson has some good collection. But all other makes have only HL

Well, the Head Instinct S has a head heavy balance, for example.

More shock is created when hitting faster incoming balls and when hitting outside the sweetspot. The weight can help absorb some of it. Racquet stiffness and strings play a big role in that regard too. A 6.1 95 is less comfortable than a PS95 even though it's significantly heavier, because it's a lot stiffer.

Hello,

It depends what we mean by heavy and it basically depends on the player. A racquet that weigths less than 330grs is light to me because I am used to play with racquets around 350grs. Other players can play with racquets of around 360grs and above and for these players mine would seem ligth.

The main reason why most of racquets are HL is just because comfort for the player when they play several hours of tennis. A HL racquet is easier to move and more arm friendly.

For young or not as old as me, the use of ligther and stiffer frames can be actually better. For me, I need around 340 - 345 grs and a fairly flexible frame to get alive from the court as the game is finished. I suppose that this happens to many other players.

Anyway, any racquet that fulfils your game is good and the offer available is huge.

There are hundreds of racquet models in TW in example and sure you will find what you are after. Use racquetfinder from TW.

Regards.
