Question about USTA match score reporting

After a 25+ year break I started playing tennis again last summer. I've been having a good time playing again and I joined my first USTA Team this spring. We had our first match today and we won our line (our team won too).

When I got home tonight I took a look at tennis link and I noticed that the reported score for our match was different than I remembered. It did acknowledge us as the winner, but I'm pretty sure that tennis link indicated a couple of more games in our opponents favor than I recall. I'm new to the USTA legues, so I was wondering if there is an incentive to incorrectly inflate the losing teams reported score? Again, I don't know that anything dishonest happened I was just wondering if the actual score has any impact on anything or is it purley seen as a win or loss?

I haven't spoken to my partner to confirm the match score yet, but was curious to see if it has any bearing on anything or it is really no big deal (if it is even incorrect).

It probalbly was an honest mistake but .... The actual scores are used for two things 1) calculating your dynamic rating and 2) for tiebreakers at the end of the season.

If your captain reported the scores it might be because he does not want your match win to be so dominant that you get disqualified mid season.

It is less likely the opposing captain did this so that in the event of the need to use tiebreakers at the end of the season they would be in a better position.

Who won the match (not just your line, but the whle match)? Typically, the winning team reports the match scores. If your team won, then you captain may have made the score closer so that you don't get a strike. If the other team won, their captain mave have just wanted to be kind to his players. Otherwise, it was just an honest mistake.

Just email the league coordinator to correct the scores. In our section, they are the only ones that can change scores once it is entered. I have done this 3 times this season. The vast majority of the time it is an honest mistake.

I would double-check with your partner to make sure your memory is correct.

Then I would go to your captain. If your captain says anything other than, "Whoops! I'll get it corrected!", then you will know you are playing for a huge cheater who is trying to manipulate the system.

Then you'll have decide whether you're a huge cheater also . . . .

Thanks all for your replies. I didn't realize that the winning team's captain handled reporting the score. Our team won, so I'm if the score of our match was off it must have just been an honest mistake.

I don't know what section you are in; but not all sections have the winning team post the scores. In my section, the captain and team hosting the match, enters the score whether they lost or they won
