Question regarding slow slice serve

I was wondering how to handle a player who hit a very low slice second serve. This is much like the post of another thread maker but i didnt want to hijack his. The guy i play has very slow but very low second serve, and so it forces me to stand just outside the service box. This forces me to slice, because im too afraid to take a groundstroke in fear of hitting the net. When i slice, he comes up and screws up my foot work. What should I do? I am not a solid net player, but a baseliner, and its hard for me to bring the game back to baseline because of his serve. Should I just try to hit a big forehand on the low serve? maybe my confidence is too low...

Well..

I am not a great player but if your having trouble with this serve I suspect your not one either. So maybe my advice can help you..

If it's a slow slice serve like that you should be able to hit a very aggressive angle across court with your return. Being so slow you should be able to position yourself almost completely off court and then simply hit the ball to an extreme angle. If you use a topspin "windshield" wipe shot you can learn to hit this shot back so that it's a winner.

I hit a slice serve as well and my opponents always do that to me as well if I hit it slow. It's better to have some pace on your slice serve, IMHO. Those slow ones can be turned into winners. Practice it the next time he uses that serve. I think you will eventually be able to make him stop hitting it altogether.

Practice your forehand finish. Get winner or make the opponent do a forced error with it. If you do unforced errors more than 50 % of the time when trying to finish , you need to practice more. Once you start finishing consistently , your opponent will begin to have trouble holding serve.

Since you list your NTRP rating as 1.5 in your sig I would just focus getting the ball back in play and keeping it deep.

Normally I would move in close to the service line if somebody is serving slow with slice out wide. Hit with topspin down the line or heavy angle with topspin.

Hit the ball back deep and it'll give you time to get back into position.
