Questions about emulators and roms

It's been a while since I've downloaded these and only have the nes, snes, genesis, gba/gb/gbc, and n64 ones on my comp now, I've had them for a while and I know how the work. My question is are the new emulators any different, like psp, ds, ps/ps2/ps3, gamecube etc? I've heard that you need a disc for the consoles that run on cds and that the psp runs with ISO roms instead of normal roms but I really don't know how those work. And I've heard that DS emulators and roms don't work well at all. I'm thinking about downloading some of the newer ones but I don't want to mess up my comp and I want them to work right away, so if any one with experience here can give me a quick rundown on the new systems that would be awesome. Thanks

I can only imagine that the PS (psp) emulators run with iso file which you should load in your virtual drive. This should be valid for all PS roms.

However, there is no chance of a ps3 emulator anytime soon. Developers are still having lots of problems with the ps2 due to the great differences between the PC and the console hardware. I'm sure there is a working ps emulator though, the same with sega dreamcast.

Alright cool thanks man so for the ps and dreamcast roms do I need cd's to burn the games to or are they just files on the comp?

Well, the virtual drive (for which you can use daemon tools or something similar) acts as a CD-ROM device, only difference being that the files are on your PC. I see no reason to burn them on cds.
