Racquet Customization question?

For all the racquet customizing gurus on the board. I know TW has the customizer app to use but need some clarification.

I just bought a couple of used Head Liquidmetal Radical OS racquets and wanted to weight them up.

The stock strung weight per TW is: 11.3 oz/3 points head light/330 swing weight.

I'm putting on a TW leather grip (the 28 grams one), plus a yonex super grap over wrap on it.

I'd like to bring the customized weight up to 12.5 oz/ around 9 points head light/ and the swing weight at 332

I have lead tape to use.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

All your weight go's on the handle, either at the butt for counterbalanced weight like a sword, or under the grip, for more SW.
Either way, you'll exceed your SW expectations.

You can't do anything without knowing the specs of the one that you have. Just because TW publish a particular spec (I understand that it's an aggregation of several in most cases) doesn't mean that your one is anything close. As mentioned in several threads already, racket specs of the same model can vary massively.

Best thing you can do is a find a pro shop with an RDC / PTC and find out the specs of your rackets as a starting point. You can then go from there.

I realize that would be the best option...but let's assume they are the same specs as the specs TW published. How would I go about getting the specs I want considering the leather grip and over grip I will be adding?

How can you want such a particular spec but not be bothered about what the starting spec is? That doesn't even make sense. Your one could have a SW of 320 for example, or even 335, both of which are going to result in very different placements of lead.

Also the TW spec seems unusual. A 318g / 3HL stick with a 330 SW? Doesn't sound very representative if they're taking an average as that would mean that there are some with 335+ SWs etc. The manufacturer unstrung target weight for the LM R OS is 10.6oz / 295g. Unusual for that light a racket to have a 330ish SW.

If you're not willing to properly measure the racquet before and after, you're better off just playing with it and adjusting based on feel.

If you have an iOS device, a set of scales and a tape measure you can make all of these measurements yourself very easily and get an automatic calculation of the modifications you need to make to get the spec you want using racquettune (with swingweight in-app purchase) and swingtool.

If you can't be bothered to do that, then you should just put some blu-tak on the head to counterbalance the replacement grip you are putting on and experiment until it feels right to you.

I would start with trying to match the frames when they have no grips and no strings. Perhaps also start with new grommet strips. Match up the frames and balance points first. Then string up the frames using the same string and tension. Now match SW. Averages are bad starting points since you do not have known numbers. 2 cents.

If you insist on going ahead, bring up TWU customization calculator. Add in the additional mass of the new grip and OG to your average racquet specs. This should move the balance point. Should have minimal impact on SW. Put the new balance point and old SW into calculator. Ask for how much lead to get to new SW and desired balance point.
