record for longest time to play (not an actual match)

I remember reading here a while ago about some people who were attempting to break the record for longest time to play doubles for charity. this isnt like an actual match but just playing as many sets as they possibly could. anyway, my youth group is trying to raise money for a charity and this came up as an idea (pledge a certain amount of dollars for every hour played or every set played) and I was wondering if anyone knew what the record is for that. even a general idea would be nice

edit: also, what are the records for longest matches (mens singles and doubles, and mixed doubles?) and by any chance would anyone know if a match has to be official to break the record or would a recording of it be enough?

This might help on the charity thing (neighborhood of 50 hours or just under). This article doesn't show the outcome, but if I recall correctly (and I might be wrong about this) the goal was 50 hours but they were so tired they settled for breaking the record of a little over 48 hours but didn't quite make it to 50. Again, I might be wrong about the actual outcome (they might have made 50 afterall, but I don't remember it that way).

hmmm, that might be a little difficult, for some reason i thought it gonna be in the 25 hour range. anyone know if that santoro-clement match is the longest match ever or just longest pro match? and would it have to be an official match to break the record or could an informal one do it as long as it followed all the rules

No, apparently the Guinness World Record for this kind of doubles match (not in professional setting or tournament) prior to this attempt was 48 hours, 6 minutes. I think that record was broken in the attempt referenced -- but not by much.

hmmm, i wonder how strict they are about it, like if you could just have the people serving and recieving playing out the point while the other two are resting or something (they would still be on court and holding their racqets so they wouldnt be breaking any rules)

In the story I linked to, they talk about that a little bit.

"As they prepare to beat the world record currently held by a team in Poland, the players practice regularly, concentrating on using their energy efficiently to last through the event. (For each continuous hour of activity, Guinness rules allow five minutes of rest, which can be accumulated.)"

yeah, I saw that, but I was wondering more along the lines of as long as no usta rules are being broken would it count. for instance, say we have person A serving, would it be okay for person A's partner to sit down off to the side of the court (still on it) and for person A to just play out the point by themselves? or would there be rules against that, also, would the normal time alloted for change overs and in between sets be allowed?
