Retaining Grip Size

Currently use a Wilson pro open 2011 and the Pro Hybrid Grip (Discontinued leather/synthetic) is worn down and doesn't feel to good. Put a Wilson Pro Overgrip on but the grip size is now too big! I have a level 3 grip (or 4 3/8) and want to retain that size.

I want to add weight onto the handle anyway so was thinking a Kimony Techni grip which is apparently the thinnest leather and Wilson pro overgrip on top, has anyone tried this and did it retain grip size??

Unless you can find some new old stock of your current grip this will be a process of trial and error.

What is Wilson's replacement for the grip you have... try one of those? Have a look online for similar styles of grip I guess.

Or try pulling the overgrip tighter on the wrap. They can take it. And if you unwrap it once it's been wrapped and do it again you will get even more stretch/thinness. Overlap it less / don't overlap it to prevent it being thicker on the wrap.

Leather will add a little weight and the overgrip a little more but leather feels different to leather-synth / synth grips.

Whatever you do I would go down the more thinner layers is better than less thicker layers route to get the desired grip weight and size.

Here's an idea for you.

A Kimony Techni is about 0.8mm thick and weighs about 13g.

A Wilson Pro overgrip is about 0.6mm thick and weighs about 5g.

On their own, that gives a total thickness of 1.4mm and about 18g in weight and is broadly what the Wilson Pro Hybrid grip is.....a thin strip of leather coated in a PU surface.

However, the Wilson Pro Hybrid is 1.6mm thick and weighs about 20g.

So you have a fraction of thickness to make up and about 2g of weight in the handle. So you could add a 4 inch strip of the 1/4 inch lead tape along two of your wider sections of your bare pallet handle. i.e. one 4 inch strip on each of the two sections. This will give you your 2g's and also add a fraction to your pallet size.

That would be an option for you and would also mean that you can replace your overgrip at any time, when you feel it needs changing, and there's no need to try and source a Wilson Pro Hybrid replacement grip.

The other option is to try and find one, but I know that is quite difficult now.

Excellent info thanks, doubt will be able to find the Wilson pro hybrid grip anymore so Kimony it is with the OG on top. I will add the additional 2g as you say to compensate and don't mind it being slightly thinner than the pro hybrid.

Yes the size should be fine.

What you have to remember is that the current grip you have will have been stretched when fitting and will have compressed over time.

Plus, we're talking about 0.2 of a millimeter here. That's a pretty small difference when you think about it in reality. It's more about replicating that feel and making life easier when you want to change the overgrip.

Yes I have one supplier which I have just ordered from, not sure if I can mention the name here so I won't :)

I don't think TW sell them so I think it would be ok.

But I will take the cautious approach and not mention stringers world.
