I buyed this racquet recently. It was blind buy because yonex demos are not available in my region. I lost my youtek prestige MP recently and wanted to try something similar. I play mostly with POG 100 these days so i will compare Yonex to Prestige and POG in this review.
So far i played with Tour 97 five days, some singles and doubles matches including. It is strung with SP Tornado (1.17) at 49/46 lbs.
- Strung static weight is 326g, so weight is pretty much spot on.
- Yonex grip size is larger than most other manufacturers, i buyed grip 2 and it feels like true grip 3. Grip shape is a bit different from prince and dunlop and is not as comfortable for me, but it is minor thnig.
- Manuverability - Swingweight is around 315 like advertised. It is a bit easier to swing than POG 100.
- Stability - Racquet feels stable for it's SW. Not all racquets with similar SW have good stability.
- Feel - Is decent. Racquet is on stiffer side, throat don't bend a bit. Racquet feels solid, but both POG 100 and Prestige MP have nicer more addicting feel.
- Sweetspot - Size is as expected. From my experience Isometric head shape don't make sweetspot much bigger. It is definitelly smaller than POG 100 and average 100 inch head size racquet.
- Power - A bit less than POG 100, more than Prestige MP.
- Control - Although drill pattern is tighter than most 16x19 racquets, control is not in prestige territory, it is similar to POG 100 which is not bad, but i expected better. Thin SP Tornado was perfect in my Prestige, but in Yonex it is too lively. Slightly thicker string would be better choice.
- Groundstrokes - I like racquet from my backhand side (2H), but my forehand don't feel as good. Don't know why, but forehand swing is not as natural.
- Serve - Good spin and control, but i lost some power.
- Conlusion - So far i'm playing better with POG 100. Although yesterday I added 1g to Yonex (at 12) and after few hits on the wall i liked it better. My RHS was faster and forehand felt better. It may also add some power to my serve, but i have to wait until i try it on courts.
