RIP Alex Trebek

RIP to an absolute legend. Jeopardy has been one of my favorite shows to watch over the years and Alex is one of the greatest Canadians icons out there - I am sure his legacy will continue living on long after his passing.

I know he had been sick for quite a while now so I'm not as saddened as I would have been had he not made his illness public, but my heart goes out to all his family and friends during this time and I'm very proud at how he fought tooth and nail against one of the worst diseases out there. 2020 has been a b**** for us all!!

2020 really has been a massive POS. We've lost:

- Kobe Bryant
- Eddie Van Halen
- Ruth Bader Ginsberg
- Sean Connery
- Chadwick Boseman
- Jerry Stiller
- Kenny Rogers
- Regis Philbin
- Stanley Ho
- John Lewis
- Naya Rivera
- Kelly Preston
- And now Alex Trebek

On top of all that, we have also lost 1.25 million souls worldwide to this SOB pandemic.

Such a genuinely good person. I can remember watching him on Concentration as a kid. I loved that game show.

All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms;
And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon’s mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lin’d,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slipper’d pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
His youthful hose, well sav’d, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion;
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

The show will go on and I'm sure things will be fine but I truly can't imagine watching Jeopardy without him.

He's been the host for 36 years. For a gigantic chunk of the population, that spans our entire lives. Median age in the US is about 38. The first time I watched Jeopardy he'd probably already been the host for a decade.

That's terrible. Did you write that garbage yourself?

What I like about such artists is that they face life head on. Notice that there is no attempt to provide consolation or to justify any suffering using elaborate theodesies and promises of a great afterlife or attributions of suffering to sins in previous lives.

Just a plain statement of fact, unlike the fabrications of religious "teachers."
