I was watching some footage of this recently and for the first time PS was not using the enormous black Nike duffel, but a red Wilson Tour duffel. Anyone know why? Also, he wore a "stars n stripes" shirt for that tournament without a Nike swoosh, presumably in recognition of 9/11?? Or was he having a problem with Nike at the time, hence not using their bag or logo on his shirt? Just curious - such a departure from a guy who seemed a creature of habit.

Pete's deal with Nike was up and hadn't been fully re-negotiated. Many articles on the use of the Flag shirts. They are sewn over the Nike Logo.
As for Wilson Bag, same deal. His contract with Wilson made use of bags and apparrel optional. Since no Nike deal, no Nike bag, so used the Wilson stuff.

I have several Sampras matches on DVD but no way to copy them. They are pretty ****-poor quality anyway, except one Paris Open final with Becker. Of course you can still tell that it's Sampras the Great, who was almost always buttery smooth. There's a guy on **** that sells all kinds of matches on DVD--I guess it's your best bet.
