My wife needs a new pair of shoes and refuses to buy a GOOD pair.

She is currently a 4.5.. was playing at 5.0 national level when she had time to play more (darn kids!) USPTA teaching pro, on the courts a lot! I say she needs a really good pair of shoes, she doesn't like to spend the money.

Slightly wide foot, needs arch support, likes the shoe to not be real stiff. I don't know if a shoe can be all of those at once, but what do you say? Anybody got a good place to start so I can surprise her with a pair?

Thanks all!

Well if she doesn't want a good pair, then these will work great for her.

One can always find good deals on shoes (on anything tennis actually) on TW website. Have you checked what they have?

My wife picks up some top of the line Wilson,Prince shoes at 50-60 bucks a pair. That's pretty good considering how much those sell locally. But if your budget is at say less than 30 bucks a pair then no one can help you really.

I guess I should rephrase my original post... yes I have checked TW website, I am looking for what the women players have found to be a GOOD shoe.. irrespective of reasonable cost.. $100/pair is my limit based on I can't believe a shoe should cost over $100 at discount at least.

So... soft shoe, good arch support, wears well, comfortable.

Anybody got an answer to that one?

No it's not a 1974 tretorn... not even the leather version.

I'm a huge fan of Nike Mirabellas, and I believe that, in comparison to other models, they are pretty affordable. They are light but give good support, and the arches for me are good (though I use a small insert). They are under 100, too.

Tiffani from TW has often recommended Head shoes to me, as well, but I've never had the occasion to try them out.

Thanks Topaz and Chinobambino, both excellent suggestions and what I was looking for. The BF II is on the price edge but might be worth it. I will look at the Mirabellas as well and see if they look like they can hold up.

Should make a nice surprise! I could wait for her July Birthday, but I think I'll get them now.

I recently bought a pair of Women's Asics Gel Resolution 2's, and I REALLY like them. They have great arch support, require no break in, and have a glove like fit.

I also like KSwiss Stabilors, but they run a little wide. The Stabilors are a very cushioned shoe, but a little on the heavy side.

Do NOT get the Mirabellas! She took a look at those shoes, and although they are more appealing price wise, the comfort and performance factor of the BFII make it a win, especially if your wife won't wear them out quickly. BFII is lower to the ground (more stable), and the upper is a lot more softer and comfortable, but she says more supportive.

My 2 cents!

Different people have different feet...for me, the Mirabellas are perfect. *shrug*

Valetennis, I also find that they run very true to size. I wear a 6.5/7 in most shoes, and I have 7 in the Mirabella, and there is a little bit of extra room.

I am wearing a pair of Mirabella 2s right now. I have a wider forefoot and find these to fit my foot well.

Like Topaz said, I also like the Head Prestige Pro for its comfort and generous fit in the forefoot. A very cushioned option that I found to be a good fit for the slightly wide forefoot is the KSwiss Defier DS. We just wrapped up a review of that shoe.

Thanks all! She loves her new BF II shoes. Said she has never had shoes this nice even with sponsorship contracts from college and ever since. Way to help out group! I am going to have her try on some Mirabellas by the way, they are cheaper.. which is really nice if they will work for her....

I recommend Mirabella 2 too. I have slightly wide feet and these are really comfortable. The lilac looks stylish too! :)

It is only natural to have an arch support in any shoe. Why all of sudden all these sneakers w/o arch support? Arch support doesn't mean you'll turn your ankle either. It's gradual and natural and cushiony for sports.
