Single's Court Positioning

Hi,

Does anyone have any good, short videos on basic court positioning. I have a friend who is a great doubles player, but will not believe me when I tell him that the old 'back to the centre' rule is for beginners ONLY in singles, and that for more advanced players there are better ways and prinicples to use to positioning your self in baseline rallies, such as cutting of likely percentage angles.

He seems to think that if he hits a CC FH and waits slightly to the right of centre for the likely CC FH reply, the opponent will just blast the ball DTL for a winner, we all know that is not likely as it's a tough shot.

I don't have any links but perhaps it'd help to explain to him the geometry of the court and the risk factor asociated with DTL shots - in a way, you want them to hit a lot of DTL shots. And then the opponent can hit short angle CC shots as well. Or just tell him to observe how the pros position themselves on TV.

Well the basics are if you hit cross court you recover just off centre on the same side and If you hit down the line you recover just off centre on the opposite side. We also teach that there are three different zones in the court, zone three is a few feet behind the baseline so when you are under pressure e.g your opponent has a short ball you would recover to the correct side but in zone three so behind the baseline. There are a few more positioning things like that, that will help in singles
