Lindsay DAVENPORT def. Venus WILLIAMS 1-6 6-3 6-4.

A year ago, Lindsay wouldn't be winning these matches. Now, Lindsay embodies the word "champion".

Not really. She still tanked AO final this year, don't forget that. It was as miserable performance as I have ever seen. Today she played another choker and even though looked lost in the first set, still had the guts to win it.

I think at this stage in her career, davenport is best in non gs events. She's choked in the last 3 slams she's played, despite her good form going in to all of them.
She used to be so clutch from '98 to '00. I'm surprised she's developed nerves this late in her career.

Kevin nailed it, in some of these non grand slam event, Lindsay plays some of the most awesome tennis I've ever seen on WTA. It's too bad she can't play like this in grand slam finals. This recent loss at AO was truly pitiful.

The fact is that this is a big improvement. A year ago if Lindsay lost a 6-1 set, tanks, end. Especially if it was to Venus. Now, we fight, and come out victorious.

That being said, I love watching Lindsay's tennis over anyone else past or present. She hits winners right and left with such ease it can make everyone else look ordinary.

The way lindsay kept in the match today was great. Venus Williams was playin the best I have seen her play for a couple of years in the first set but Davenport showed why she is such a great champion and stayed in to win. I hope she stays round for a while longer yet!

She was really close to losing the match. Venus kind of handed it to her, by not being able to convert on multiple breakpoints. In the first set Venus blew Lindsey off the court.

I wouldn't say she choked in the last 3 GSs...I believe she was injured during the USO '04.
Wimbledon was a choke. US Open she was injured, but still in a winning position - up 3-0 in the third. Australia was pretty much just her running out of gas in the end.
