He sacrificed future fan support, so imo it wasn't the best move.

Crowd in NYC hate Djokovic in order to help Federer. Federer as the GOAT is corporate construction that started in 2006, much before Federer was slam double digits. These people were told for 10 years that Federer is the best player ever. If this is a lie, is everything in my life a lie?

They didn't have to be told. Are you kidding me? Federer showed up every year winning the UO lol

Winning when the field was very different. He was the best player prior to Nadal/Djokovic/Murray, but not in their time. If you win in their presence, I can just say "Bravo". As I did for AO 2017. No complains. These people in NYC are bombarded every day with a concept that Federer is the GOAT. People are brainwashed into believing that.

Oh the real reason for the discussion emerges ;) I believe yesterday proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Peak Fed>>>Peak Djokovic.
No need to beat it into the ground today like every other day :D

Delusion at its highest.

Just curious, why did you chose that particular username, when it is blatantly obvious that you have no positive affiliation with the man?

Or was that before he went on to tear a new one on the whole tour, and there was a lingering hope that #18 would remain a mirage?

I just think using yesterdays match as proof that peak fed > peak novak is delusional. I don't think the version of federer that people are picturing has anything to do with the Federer we saw yesterday or the last couple of years. Alot of factors to consider. One, Federer is a different player today than in the past, tennis isn't either the same as it was. Stuff changes, tactics changes.

While the statement can be disputed, it is not out of question that Federer demonstrated yet again that he is a tough cookie for Novak, and that after the man has been arguably out his best game even for his current standards.

You may disagree with the conclusion, but to disagree with the possibility (calling it "delusional") is something else.

Nevermind, I just checked your registration date, so I think I got my answer.

It must be incredibly hard pill to swallow to log in with the knowledge that your username is a result of unsuccessful trolling.

They were right to question Djoker then , who has since transformed

They were not right questions then nor are right at any time. If there is an issue with a player retiring too many times there are organisations/officials that are responsible to deal with that. What I particularly like about Djokovic is that he is nice to young players and mind his own business. If you think to say anything bad and it is not your business, just shut up. I particularly like his statement "Nadal is not unbeatable" as this was an indication of his positive state of mind. Would I have a problem if Zverev, after losing, 2:6, 1:6 said "Djokovic is not unbeatable"? Of course not. I would welcome such statement coming from any young player. This is how it should be.[/QUOTE]
Exactly, what if he turned up with some disease or form of cancer? How dumb would that be then? Djoko never looked like he was not mentally engaged in any if his retirements aside from obvious issues he was suffering.

You will never get an answer . OFC it was because it was thought the 18th will remain ever elusive

He’s he best player ever to play the game. Only Nadal in clay compares.

But you can however confidently say Djoker is better than any version of Fed, past or present ?

Are you this naive to not see your double standards ?

you keep saying/pointing to Novak's yesterday's performance as his peak...
I understand that makes you feel better (just like when my hitting partner calls my 95 mph serve as "at least 125mph") about something that happened many years ago...
However, let me help you here -- Novak today is nowhere close to Novak's peak as few years ago

Peak Fed needed fast courts to win. Wonder why he only won 1 AO after it slowed down and needed fast courts to win the two he won in 2017/2018. Plus an easy draw in 2018

Arod was a huge dick to Novak. Novak responded to Arod's salty AF comments and already terrible USO crowd got worse. The fault lies on the cruddy USO crowd for being total *****

He's a hell of a lot closer to peak than Federer is.

37 year old Federer is closer to peak than 31 year old Djokovic. That's your argument lol
No, my argument is that you know nothing about tennis.
30-year old Novak 10 months ago was much farther away from his peak than the 36-year old Federer. So, the age has nothing to do with it....again.
In today's form, Novak is undoubtedly closer to his peak performance than Federer, however, by MUCH closer margin than you wish it is... Yet, not even 80% to his peak levels

We aren't talking about 10 months ago, so why are you bringing it up? Tell me how ten months ago has anything to do with what happened this weekend genius. It has nothing to do with it. Djokovic has been in near peak form since Wimbledon and Federer has been far below his 2017-2018 level. You're an idiot.

I brought it because you brought the AGE as your argument.
Now, ask your mom to help you understand your own argument

He was good enough to play and make the final and beat Federer and Cilic on the way. All of you can make excuses for the Federer match if you want to. Everyone knows Djokovic has been on a whole other level compared to the entire tour and Federer was pretty much written off. No excuses.

I thought Federer lost the match at the end.
Or this is another moral victoary, one of many, for the Granpa.:)

You can say the same thing every time any of these guys, including gramps, go far in the tournament.

What excuses? Djokovic won the match. He's also beaten a better playing Federer more comfortably than that many times in the past. I agree Fed exceeded many expectations last week and has plenty of positives to take from what he did in Paris. All I am saying is don't exaggerate Novak's and dump on Fed's performance for the sake of his moral victory.

I understand this is very important for you, to have a lot of fans.
Novak is a predator in a sport some sees as “a gentleman’s sport”.
Not everybody have your mindset about this.

Actually, it is VERY important for a player to have lots of fans, because larger fan base = more $$$ from endorsement deals.
There's a reason why neither Adidas nor Nike want anything to do with him.
There's a reason why Federer and Nadal make several times more money from endorsements than he does.

Djokovic has been the most disliked top player in a long time.
And yes, he did this to himself. Not only with all the stuff from the beginning of his career, but also with his shirt-ripping, chest-thumping antics, his arrogant smirks, etc. That kind of stuff may work in the WWE, but will likely rub most tennis fans the wrong way. Not only in the US, but around the world.
Add to that comments made in the past by his parents, and then there you have it.

Novak makes a lot of money as it is.

Its a typical Fed fan thing to obsess about endorsements and grade their tennis from popularity. Not everybody got this mindset. As its tennis, not a popularity contest.

Federer as the GOAT started way back in 2004 not by some corporate or fanatics but by legends like Agassi, contemporaries like Hewitt and veterans like Tim Henmen There are valid quoted for these .

Even in 2003 SF WB When he hadn't won a Slam , the commentators were baffled from what they were seeing on court.
They were debating it aloud in 2004 USO F itself.

But of course you have no idea of that.
So watch actual matches , it's better than living in your own world.
