Went to the match today vs. Illinois. They are a really great team, lots of strong players. Hilary Barte is a powerhouse and I enjoyed watching her blasting winners from all over the court. The doubles matches were all pretty good too. If you're in the area I'd encourage you to go watch the matches! I'll be going to watch the men's team some time as well.

Fudge's forehand is essentially all slice and Nguyen probably had trouble with it. Also, Fudge got a lot of shots back and Nguyen ended up making the errors. It was a really tight first set with some service breaks and then Fudge did well on the tiebreak.

Also when you go watch the men's. watch Alex and Ryan. Alex has some amazing weapons and Ryan is full of Pro potential..

I knew that when I posted this thread that there was a high probability of these comments... but I'm always going to be a fan of Stanford tennis regardless If anyone gets a chance to watch these two teams play, it is fantastic - great seats, and three matches going on at once so there is almost never a moment when there are no points being played! I just wish they had home meets on the weekends more often.

When Hillary was younger I thought she'd turn pro. Great player!

Maybe she'll go pro after graduating. I read somewhere that she was going to go pro after HS but after a brief trial decided college was a better choice first. If she does go pro I'm a fan!

No scholarship splitting for NCAA Division I women, only for men. NCAA Division I women's tennis is a head count sport, meaning that anyone receiving scholarship money counts 1.0 towards the 8.0 total. So, no more than 8 women on any roster get a penny of athletic scholarship money. Men's tennis is an equivalency sport, meaning that the partial scholarships are computed as fractional equivalents of full scholarships based on dollar amounts, etc. Men get 4.5 equivalent scholarships in Division I.

In order to allow schools to prove Title IX compliance by means of proportional scholarships, the NCAA sets higher limits on scholarships for many women's sports than men's sports. Men's soccer gets 9.9, women's soccer gets 12.0. For tennis, once the limit gets above about 6, they probably decided it made more sense to just have full scholarships rather than partials.

Stacey is very good. She's had some nice results on the circuit including wins over girls with much higher rankings. She did win a $10K a couple of years ago. She's had a couple of surprise losses too, matches I would have expected her to win, but she is still young.
