starting cross knot in tight space and in contact with cross string

I strung a wilson prostaff 97ULS the other night. It was kind of a tight space for the starting cross knot. instead of normally starting with a starting knot I figured it would be better to use a starting clamp and do a finishing knot(double hitch). the end result was the knot bulging out so it pushes the cross string a little bit. Will this cause early string breakage? Is there a better knot to use in such tight spaces?

You did not do a hybrid. This frame is a natural for top down crosses. Come out 11 top and run the 1st cross thru 8 top. No starting knot needed. You have enough room for a regular Pro Knot there as well as a regular starting knot. And No, your knot will not cause premature breakage unless you choked the anchor, which is pretty hard to do on poly.

I'm assuming that would be stringing using 1 piece right? That was what was done before i cut out the strings. I didn't realize that the space would be so tight until I got to the crosses. I've only done the two string method so far because that s what everyone seemed to recommend doing.

This often happens to me with the Pro Staff and Hyper-G. Never had and string breakages at that point. I've used finishing knots and starting knots in that situation without any issues.

A few of us have stated that we do 1 piece unless it is a hybrid or a request for 2 piece. I am one of them. If you pull string from reels, you can save at least 2' easily over what the manufacturer says is needed. Some people have issues with ATW, but I don't seem to have any of the issues mentioned [blocked holes, crossovers] Just takes some planning. I will also follow manufacturers' instructions if they allow bottom up crosses. Wilson does allow it on selected frames. The main points clients want are consistency, the right ref tension and a frame that is the same length before and after stringing.

It should be fine, it just doesn't look good. I'm not a fan of that knot for any tie-off actually, I always use the Wilson Pro knot; much cleaner look and it takes up less room, so it's perfect for when you have small spaces like that.

I do prefer to practice new methods on my own racquet so i will def try different knots on my raquet this weekend
