strings notching

My cross strings (OGSM nat 17) have been notching quickly with Mosquito Bite red mains. I've been trying to find a better cross, but it has occurred to me that the notching may be due to the stroke path that I use for my ground strokes. For my forehand, I extend my arm as I swing. It's a very circular path and I can imagine that the strings may be brushing the ball sideways at impact. Otherwise, I can't see why the crosses are getting notched.

The solution that I'm thinking of is to step a little closer into the ball and find the slot for my stroke that will allow it to travel in a linear path through the ball. I'd rather not drop my traditional technique and re-learn a modern technique. I think starting with the linear stroke then adding and subtracting things will work better for me.

Do you think this sounds reasonable? If you had notching on your crosses, what worked for you? I love the performance OGSM 17 in this hybrid up until it notches and the string bed freezes, but I could switch to a compromise string.

I would agree that you probably have some sort of pulling action, which could cause your crosses to notch. You could add string savers or use a cross string that has Kevlar in it like PSGD or Gamma SG w/wearguard. A more expensive option is Monogut ZX.

When I play with my ps85 i use gosen synthgut crosses with a poly main. Usually the poly mains notch and break after about a few times of playing.

I switched to full poly bc I'm using a yonex 95d now and need more control and durability.

Monogut ZX Pro sounds like a great fix. But I think I'll try a couple of cheaper things first. I have a half set left of OGSM Super 1.25. It may be a good choice if it doesn't notch quickly, but it's white and therefore more muted than natural OGSM. I could try a syngut w/ aramid fibers as well. They would fall into the compromise category.

If I can fix my forehand technique a little, maybe I would be able to use the natural OGSM. It's really pockety and connected with the Mosquito Bite in my signature racquet. My problem is not breaking strings, but notching them and making them freeze up into boards after a couple of uses.
