If you are looking for in-depth tennis instruction that is not what most of these camps are designed to do and I would stick with whatever local camps your teaching pro offers during the summer.

If you are looking for a social camp for tennis players where you are with a bunch of tennis kids including some tournament kids from around the mw where you will drill and have match play / Davis Cup type stuff and then do something fun at night (dairy store where they make ice cream one night, an arcade the next, etc. ) then I would go to the Nike Camp at Michigan State University. My son did that each year for many years with former coach Orlando, the ladies coach, and their staff. He really enjoyed it. You will share a dorm room so I would go with a pal and room together.

He and his pals also did the Wilson camp at Wooster in Ohio one year which was also good but they liked MSU better.

My son also went to Whitewater with Coach Barnes for UTR tournaments and I have heard he runs a great camp.

It is because TW has a competitor that used to have mw in their name and obviously they wouldn't want links to that site posted here so they just scan for any text with mw in the name and then *** it out so therefore the link won't work.

I literally have no idea what brand that even is and I’m pretty into tennis. Lol how obscure is that.

Indiana University also has a Wilson camp that I’ve heard good things about. The used to give you a discount code for a Wilson custom racquet for like $60 if that does anything for you. It’s been a few years since anyone I know went, but worth looking into. My guess is if Wooster and IU do it, there will be a college campus near you that does also

You gotta be kidding....I don't know what planet you are playing tennis on if you haven't at least seen them. They along with their now partner in Texas, an online retail in Minn and TW make the majority of US online tennis sales. If you have googled to purchase anything online tennis related in the last 20 years you would hit their web site. They changed their name recently as they were acquired along with TWs other major competitor in Texas by a European conglomerate.

I swear I don’t know what it is. The only tennis gear I’ve ever bought online was from TW and occasionally from T-express. Everything used comes from the bay.

Edit - Ok did some googling to see if I could figure it out. Learned a few things! Ok, yep I can confirm I had never visited a website called m i d w e s t sports. And when I saw tennis point I thought: “Wait, that’s the name of the league app I used to track my USTA team!”. Then further digging revealed: “Oh, it’s not the the same thing? It’s literally called the same name, with a dash in the middle, wtf?” I swear I thought all those ads on tennis channel were for the playing app lol. I had no idea it was a retailer.

Well ok then.

Hope college tennis academy is a great one in Holland, MI. It is run by Jorge Capestany (look him up online if you haven't heard of him), one of the best changes I've ever worked with. Some kids will spend the entire summer there, others come in for just a week or two.

Hope????

I must admit not knowing anything about Jorge except googling after you sent this and I am sure he does a good job but if I were to head to Western Michigan I would go to work with Tom Walker and his staff in Grand Rapids before heading to Hope College.

Tom and his staff have developed many top ranked players including most recently Ozan and one of Ball State's top players and a good portion of the state heads his way to develop their tennis skills. I have no idea what Tom runs during the summer but it would certainly be well worth exploring if one wanted to head to the west side of the mitten.

Not sure who Tom is, and not sure what level of player OP is, but I know Jorge is fantastic. You can see some of his stuff for free on his website, plus he has another website just dedicated to helping other coaches become better at coaching. His academy is a lot of fun and there was a wide range of abilities when I was there, so everyone had several players around their level that they played with.

I'll admit when I first heard about it I thought 'what makes Hope College so special', but Jorge has done an incredible job there. They even have a Professional Tennis Management program/degree at the college there now. He's also a USPTA and PTR Master Pro (highest level of teaching pro certification in both organizations), and he has a great staff.

Yup I am very (I mean very) familiar with Hope College and their program.

Tom was at Court One in Lansing and then purchased a club in Grand Rapids. As far as developing tournament kids in Central and Western Michigan he has probably developed more than anyone in that part of the state.

OP indicated he was 14 year old kid in Wisconsin looking to travel to a summer camp in the "middle of the west".

Lol, sounds like you aren't a fan of the PTM program there. I can't speak to that program, I just think it's interesting and thought it was worth mentioning.

Jorge really is fantastic though, and they have a great summer program.

And yeah, he's 14, but that tells us nothing about his level. Another reason I recommended Hope, they have a wide range of abilities there. I had been to a few places in the *******, either as a player or a coach, and Hope was definitely my favorite. Beat out ones at University of Wisconsin and Notre Dame in my opinion. But it has been a while since I've been to any of them, so things may have changed.

I think it is great that Hope and Ferris have a PTM program and it is greatly needed. My son's first coach attended the PTM program at Ferris and I have many friends that attended Ferris's PTM program and I suspect Hope's is very good as well although I have not run into a graduate of that program as of yet.

I am sure Jorge is good too but I was bit taken aback as while I am familiar with Hope I had not heard of Jorge and his work. I am pretty familiar though with the coaches in that neck of the woods and my son has competed with a great deal of the kids in that part of Michigan and I do know who is pumping out tennis kids in that area and their skill level that is for sure.

I do agree it is important for kids to play with kids at their appropriate level.

Sorry I was really just surprised with the suggestion.

Yeah, not saying Jorge will take him to the ATP tour or anything, but most people aren't striving for that anyway. The summer academy there is fun, has a good variety of levels, gives you plenty of match play, and helps you with all different aspects of the game. Can't say many places can do that all well within a week, but they pull it off.

If he has dreams of going pro, there might be better places to go, but he still produces plenty of quality players that really enjoy the game.

That sounds great. I just googled his PTM link at Hope where he discusses the program there and watched the video they have. Thank you for sharing the info on him.
