Tennis in Los Angeles(South bay)?

Does anyone have any tips on how I can find a friendly group of tennis players or some hitting partners that play on public courts in the Los Angeles(south bay) area? I'm looking for either individual players that can meetup to play or a group that might gather weekly on weekend mornings and are open to people droping in when they have time to play some tennis. My schedule is pretty busy now with kids and work and my other endurance sports so I dont know how much time I can commit right now but I really want to start playing again and would like to get a quick idea about the Tennis scene in the area.

I'm getting back into Tennis after a 15 year hiatus after highschool and looking for a casual group of players to rally and play some friendly games with. I want to get my wife and kids involved in the sport too when the kids are older and would be interested in finding any groups that have players of all levels and ages. I live around El Segundo/Manhattan Beach area there are public tennis courts a block from my house at Del Aire park and I would be willing to travel to most of the LA south bay areas.

Back in the day during middle and high school I played almost every day and was ranked high on my highschool varsity team that won the city championships almost every year. However I haven't played now for quite a while so I am pretty rusty but I'm sure I'll get up to speed with alittle practice.

Thank you

What's your NTRP? I visit Redondo Beach quite often, and stay there for most of the summer. It took me a while to find some decent players. I was only able to find a handful of true 4.0 players, and even less 4.5. Lots of the strong 3.0/solid 3.5 players though. To be perfectly honest, the tennis scene in south bay is pretty crappy for NTRP 4.0+. Its amazing in santa monica and orange county. In terms of group lessons/private lessons, there are a TON of coaches. It depends on what you are looking for but while the coaches were very talented players, from what I observed, I was not a fan of the instruction YMMV. It really depends on what skill level you are and what you are looking for.

Hermosa Pier has a lot of group play/meetup/lessons you can look into as well. Recreation Park (in El Segundo) also has group lessons and such. Their courts are some of the nicest around that area. Alta Vista Park in Redondo has random doubles/singles pickup days (minor costs). Essentially lots and lots of options for <NTRP 4.0. Stronger players around that area are typically juniors and they don't like hitting with us old folk haha.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the reply. To be honest I'm not really sure what my NTRP is right now. Is the rating something you have to go and get officially rated or is it just self reported? If I were to estimate my own rating I would say when I was playing alot in highschool(15 years ago) I was a 4.0 maybe a 4.5. I've been out of the game for a long time and just picked up a racket again so I'm not at that level anymore but I would imagine I could get back to a 3.5 or 4.0 level again pretty quickly. At this point I am just happy if I can find a little free time to hit with anyone so I can dust off all the rustiness and get back into the game casually and get my family interested too.

I live pretty close to Recreation Park in El Segundo so that might be a good place for me to check out. Does recreation park have a message board at the park or online where people can safely post their info and skill level to look for partners?

Yeah, its mostly a self rate and a lot of people will self rate incorrectly. I'm guessing you will be exactly what you said: a solid 3.5, and will get quickly back into 4.0+ if you start hitting. Rec Park requires an annual membership (not sure how much it is). I only hit there once, but I would imagine there to be some formal system there. I would just stop by the desk and ask!
