I grew up in the area... Your best bet is the Racquet Center in South Pasadena. I guess it's called Arroyo Racquet club.

A little out side of the area you can try Whittier Narrows tennis courts in Rosemead. You can always find a good game at Santa Anita in Arcadia.

Good luck

Not too high a calibre out that way. Head to the Beach towns out west...

Eh? There are plenty of good players in the Pasadena and surrounding cities area-plenty. It certainly would not be worth it to drive all the way to the Santa Monica or Newport so you can find good competition. Beach towns have good players too but I would say there are pretty much good players all over Socal except for certain spots. Unless you are really high level like 5.5 and above, maybe then you will have to be more picky.

Compared to non-California, Texas and Florida states, sure there are unlimited tennis players all over SoCal, including the San Gabriel Valley. However, anyone who lives there, already knows that. If someone is having trouble finding the kind of competition they are seeking in SoCal, then my assumption is they are seeking an unusually high calibre of play, hence my post. If they want to knock around with some 4.0's, you are right, there are thousands of them in the SG Valley.

BTW, I'd hit Rancho Palos Verde before Newport.
