Tennis on Charlie Rose

While I was just updating my old OP on Ashe's interview with Charlie Rose I noticed that the show's official site now provides full transcripts. As you may know Rose was a self-proclaimed tennis maven who invited many prominent players to his show over the years, and as someone who's seen most of these interviews in full I can say they're usually worth watching. (Case in point: Rose didn't shy away from asking Hewitt about the James Blake flap though Rusty was understandably not so eager to oblige.)

And the site seems to be hosting all the episodes despite the erstwhile host's recent fall from grace, so I expect them to hold up much longer this time around. (Besides I see only brief snippets now on YouTube and Google anyway.) Check 'em out when you can.

Here's a fairly comprehensive teaser:

He was always my least fav interviewer because of his rambling, inexact questions. I remember one time, after he asked a typical 35 second question, his guest asked, "What's your question?"

For the record I don't consider Rose a particularly penetrating interviewer myself, but I actually liked how he didn't let his guests dictate the terms as far too many of his obsequious colleagues on TV are wont. (Colbert though a chat-show host is another one that comes to mind. Also Brian Lamb, though he preferred to sit back more and was just about the least confrontational interviewer ever who still managed to coax unusual answers out of his guests.)

And that’s not even considering the lack of pants at times.
