The aftermath for Federer: another match-losing streak?

Well not really a match-losing streak....

But i wonder whether this AO final loss will have the same/similar impact on his game like the Wimbly loss did.

His first match after Wimbledon, he loses to Simon. Then almost loses to Ginepri, and goes out to Karlovic in the next round. Then he loses his QF against Blake. These aren't guys he'd usually lose to. With Simon you'd make the exception since it was the first meeting.
Also his losses to Fish and Roddick after the AO should be noted (i won't count the Murray one since he has a bad record against him).

So i'm looking forward to seeing him play in Dubai. This, to me, will show the psychological impact it has had on him. And whether he's been able to handle it better than the previous losses.
Does he need an Olympic-like win to rejuvenate his confidence and self-belief? Or has he been there, done that, got the polo and able to channel those emotions in a way that would make him learn from his mistakes and defeats?

Fed fan or not, just thought i'd get some opinions on this. :)

We will see how Federer will play in the US with the first stop Davis Cup.A win there will be a huge boost for confidence not only for him but also for Wawrinka.
Regarding Dubai it`s hard to judge in what shape he will be.Dubai is more of a relaxing thing then a hard fight(Roddick winning there last year says it all).

I'm thinking maybe he drops off a little from last season even. I actually think he's in better shape and playing better this season than last, but I also believe everyone else has upped their games as well and Fed has lost a little bit more of his edge with the field. I honestly don't give him a good chance at winning a major this season. I think too many people will be playing hot for him to make it all the way through. The one wild card is Wimbledon. That's where he has to strike this year to get his major. It isn't going to happen at the USO or FO.

Ah yes, i forgot about DC in Birmingham! Hopefully playing with and for his 'comrades' will do him good.

What are Fed's upcming fixtures ? I mean rough dates ?
Dubai starts on the 23rd of this month.
Then DC in early March, followed by IW and Miami.
Rome in April, Madrid in May.

I think he still has a shot at USO this year but it's too far ahead right now. Even FO is too far ahead to predict. Right now i'm more interested in how he'll perform prior to FO.

That's absolutely true. It's fun to sit here and speculate months out, but in all honesty the man could go on to not lose another match the rest of the season. All we can do in the meantime (especially here at TTW) is talk about every imagineable outcome and even some that aren't possible. :)

Yep, that's why i'm leaving that for the other threads made by 'excitable' people. ;)

What if Federer routinely is runner up to Rafa for the next year in the slams and some majors (meaning he does not win any) ?

Do you think Roger will hang on being number 2 to Rafa ?

Or will he try to win one slam and then hang up his boots so as to be remembered as a winner.

Hey, OCM, just love your avatar. Wish I could steal it -- i don't have much self-respect ;-)

Being number 2 depends on how well he performs in comparison to world number 3 and 4. If he starts losing consistently to most guys in the top 20-30 due to being so 'shaken' then i doubt he can hang on to that ranking.

He's said he wants to play into his mid-30s, so health permitting he will be around for long. I just hope he doesn't 'do a Borg/Henin' now. I'd love to see him 'do an Agassi' instead.

As for the avvie, it was a very poignant moment. I just had to have it! Especially to remind certain people of how mature and respectful RN is. Yet the lesson is rarely learned..

I think if Federer somehow wins the French (unlikely, but could happen, you never know) and gets one more major he will retire.

My bad, but i do remember quite a number of tennis players do live in tax havens.

That's true. I remember hearing some commentators during Monte Carlo talk about how group of 4 players held an official 'primary residence' together in a single apartment in Monaco; although, it implied that don't actual live there. Somebody joked that their flat alone could probably win Davis Cup.
