As I mentioned to @mad dog1 , I have family coming in town for Spring Training but they haven't confirmed days yet, so just gonna play it by ear. Most likely will do an overnighter and just car camp to spend a day there. Or maybe two days. Will see!

If anyone is here this weekend, we have the grass court reserved for 11 on Sunday. My son and I will play dubs w you and a partner (4.5 level).

We played today on the hartru clay and then the grass. Headed into the tennis garden in a bit to watch some practice.

Lots of official cars driving the pros around the streets.

Update: just got in. As soon as we walk through the gates a lady approaches my son and asks if he wants to play w Dimitrov. He hit w all the kids.

Saw Andy Murray and Jack draper practicing on the court next door.

Ah so. We saw Verdasco and Roddick (separately) in one of the restaurants at La Quinta back in the day, since we're name dropping. Also the Bryans and Hanchukova practicing on the courts there (also separately).

They are all retired. Must be there to play some exhos or charity events.

I have a court Friday morning March 10th at 9:30am in Cathedral City (Desert Princess Country Club) if anyone wants to hit, I'm a 4.5 but 60 and need a knee replacement so anyone 4.0 or above would be good :)

Will anyone be there on the 8th and 9th? My brother and I (both 4.5) will be there and would love to get a session in the morning before the day session begins.

Just lot proximity. You can leave your cold weather gear in the car during the day and have quick access to it in the evening when it gets cold.
Yup. You can also stash a cooler in your car and run out to grab some food and "beverages".

I've always used the North entrance every time I've gone. Up until basically last year you could bring in a small soft side cooler with ice, with pretty much anything you wanted, so long as you didn't have any glass (or aluminum cans? Can't remember). I always poured Corona into plastic water bottles. Most of the ladies would bring in bottles of wine transferred into plastic bottles. It was a lot more fun.

But I've always stayed right across Fred Waring when I've gone. Then I'd usually go home between day and night session. Cook something to eat, take a shower, and change into my heavy night clothing.

During the early rounds, the last match ends around 11pm to past midnight. At that time, there’s only a few cars remaining.
Well if you leave when most people leave, you'll run into traffic (whenever that happens to be). And statistically you're likely to do so.

Thanks for all the responses here and hope everyone has a good time if you are going.

I didn't realize it could get so cold

I'm praying to the gods that I can catch a glimpse of Monfils

They played dink and my son hit two short angles and made Dimitrov run, then hit a tweener. Dimitrov wasn't impressed and didn't hit one back.

So awesome. Dimitrov is a good egg.

sorry for the dumb question, but with the grounds pass I can leave in the middle of the day back to my hotel and come back for the night session right?

From the website
If you wish to re-enter on the same day you must obtain a re-entry wristband that can be found at all Guest Services Kiosks and at the North, South and East gate entrances. Both your ticket and wristband are required to re-enter Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The grounds pass is technically for the day session, but you can stay and use the unreserved seats in the evening session. However if you leave the grounds and then want to come back once the night session has started, I suspect that they might not let you in. You should try and gain re-entry while the day session is still going on.

Finally back, been three years since we've been to IW/Paribas.

Wondering how strictly the food policy is enforced...small (single-serving) bag of chips gonna sneak through in backpack? Can I have some hard candy in my pockets? They aren't strip-searching or putting you through one of those scanners that requires empty pockets, are they?

And can we bring in aluminum water bottles? Or do they have to be plastic/flexible? The food policy says below, so wondering if dual-wall insulated Contigo water bottles are verboten?

...hard-sided bags/containers are not permitted

Thanks for any info/experiences on this.

They are not strict on bringing in small bags of snacks in your clear bag or candy in your pockets. You are allowed to bring in an empty, refillable water bottle like a HydroFlask.

like a HydroFlask.
Thanks - looked these up online (didn't realize it was a brand) and they are aluminum so looks like we're good w/our Contigo alumnimum bottles. Good to hear they aren't disallowing small snacks!

Thanks for the feedback.

Went to the evening session last night. The doubles matches with Fritz/Paul vs. Evans/Peers and Shelton/Rune vs. FAA/Shapo were absolutely standing room only which was pretty fun. The only negative was getting out of the parking lot towards the end of the night, took us about an hour, don't think anyone was directing traffic. Also I noticed the size limits for clear backpacks wasn't an issue.

yeah I saw the crowds going in and was like, screw that....ended up getting autographs and photos with the pros on the other courts which was so much more worth it for me

Just got back from three days there:

Highs:
-Practice sessions are great (Rublev, Alcaraz and Badosa were the best for us)
-TW practice court was fun, good energy
-FILA store was fun and it was nice to see a variety of tennis clothes
-Autographs all day at the lawn area

Lows:
-The doubles match Fritz/Paul and FAA/Shapo was overflowing with no seats, so that was a bummer
-Swiatek and Medvedev both chose to practice on the only court without any fan access. Really disappointing considering everyone else was in view

Had a pretty good day watching tennis at IW today. When we were trying to leave this evening we were informed that the main exit gate was closed - due to the scheduled drone show. It was only about 15 minutes but there were about 200 people waiting to exit while the drone show was going on. Otherwise it was pretty good just a little windy. Best match to watch today was Wolf/Giron playing against Sinner/Sonego, definitely entertaining.

Had a great weekend. Saturday was pretty crowded, though had no trouble getting out after the Alcaraz match from the VIP parking lot. They have a new thing this year where you can get Credential ID, so can bypass the entrance (like the ballkids, volunteers and employees do), also bypass food lines (a big deal Saturday, minimal lines on Sunday).
